Melbourne Victory plays host to the Brisbane Roar in Sunday afternoon A-League action. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:05pm AEDT.
Under new manager Tony Popovic, the Victory have been the talk of the town all week. After Portuguese Roderick knocked in their first goal of the season against Western United and the three points were earned, Victory fans were ecstatic as to just how organised and better their team looked almost immediately. After the disaster of 2020/21, where the club finished last on the ladder, it was obvious right from the beginning that Popovic was exactly what they needed.
Another win for the Victory in this one would see its fans frothing at the mouth, yet it will have to earned against a Roar side that was robbed of a point against Melbourne City last week, when technical issues prevented VAR from intervening in what looked a legal goal. It is a common story for Warren Moon’s team and Nikola Mileusnic, Luke Ivanovic and Matti Steinmann look as though they could strike up a nice attacking combination as the season unfolds.
This looks like one of the most difficult matches to line up in Match Week 2, with Brisbane seething after their loss and the A-League Men’s community eager to see just how good Melbourne Victory can be this season.

I have only seen the highlights of this match, but there is a real sense of positivity in the MV camp this season. They are going to be hard to stop this year.

Good steady performance. Team looks nice and stable and two clean sheets are great. Good to see they controlled the game up to 60 minute mark. They absorbed some late pressure nicely enough. A sense though we are missing the potent HAL level striker we typically had, eg Barba and Nabbout being missing but some good potent midfielders in Rojas and Kruse

No mates - while watching this game I was reminded of a statement made to me recently by a mutual friend, a man who knows his football. His statement.----- "Roar are an NPL club, run by NPL thinkers, managed by an NPL manager/coach, using NPL players, to play in Australia's best league. I just couldn't get rid of those words out of my mind when watching this debacle. jb

Disappointing for Roar but Victory played well. Mind you, an own goal and a sitter missed could have changed things, but that's the game. Same day travel can't have helped, and you have to ask why? three times? the same old questions just keep coming back in this league but Roar won't offer any excuses. They weren't good enough, simple. And must do better. In all parts of the field.

Same day travel two weeks in a row against the two best teams? Lets see next week after the home opener. Not to say Reds arent a big threat but lose that and then its time for concern. Till then hard to know.

I'm not a Victory fan but its good to see them do well and get a half decent crowd. As for Roar i think because of there FFA Cup run they believed the hype about them self and its come crashing down on them.

Yea but youll say that about 10 teams in the next 5 weeks. Vic deserved winners but Roar one win off a finals spot so no need to get carried away for now.
