Melbourne Victory host Western United for the second leg of their semi final tie. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:15pm AEST.
Melbourne Victory took the most initiative in the first legs of A-League semi-final play, with a Jake Brimmer goal proving the only successful strike of the weekend and one that now demands Western United bring everything they have to the table in the return match.
As we’ve seen so often in two-leg playoff matches in Europe, the tactics can be fascinating when one team knows they have a goal advantage and the other knows they have to score at least two goals if they want to win the game in regulation.
The temptation for Victory will be to be patient at the start and frustrate United but that can be a dangerous approach.
Victory are the clear favourites after an incredible unbeaten streak of 16-games and it will take something special to deny them qualifying for a seventh A-League grand final.

"both teams playing a home and away game and the combined scores of both games determining the winner. In the case of a tie, the teams will play in extra time or penalties if necessary."

I know we're playing around here, but Adelaide may well pull in more spectators than City or United. It's only a short drive or quick flight to AAMI.

Well maybe its time for Shaun Evans on VAR, where he will be at the world cup probably for Qatar matches, its time for commercial considerations no Victory means Adelaide have to be sacrificed.

Its good for Victory in that if they have success its in with the family members.

Cracking second leg by the Verdeneri. Deserved grand finalists.

True that. WSW slumped when Popovic left, as did Glory. Then he had “business dealings” with Bill Papas at Xanthi FC.

The Victorian government really needs to put their thinking caps on then, as does Football Australia. A great test for the A-League & Chanel 10.

No, drawn was what Australia did with Iran in 1998! And we still didn't go to The World Cup.

Possibly good for Victory they didn't go on to win the GF. If they had Popovic would have been odds on for the Socceroos job and we know what happens to Popovic coached teams when he leaves. Jake Brimmer is gutted - great player and that attitude makes him even better. I hope he's around as the Victory captain for a while yet.

Western United win 4-1 in a brilliant semi-final (4-2 on aggregate) Certainly the biggest win in their history

The scary thing is, Victory could have won a few minutes from full-time. Then, WU score. Massive counter-attack.
