The Wellington Phoenix head into the first A-League elimination final as favourites against Perth Glory. Join The Roar for live scores from 5pm (AEST).
Ufuk Talay has done a tremendous job with this Wellington squad, putting them in an excellent position to advance to the second week of the A-League finals. They haven’t been in the greatest form of late, managing three losses, two draws and just the solitary win since the competition restart last month, but having finished the ladder in third they do enter this match as favourites.
Perth’s form hasn’t been much to crow about either. Consecutive goalless losses precede today’s must-win match, one of which was a particularly concerning 4-0 drubbing at the hands of the Victory.
Tony Popovic’s side have really struggled without star man Diego Castro, who hasn’t played since the COVID break, but Wellington will be without a key attacker of their own, with Gary Hooper still sidelined with an injury. Hooper has been going at better than a goal every three games for the Kiwis, so his absence will be welcomed by the Glory defence.
These two sides last met exactly one month ago, and while Perth had the better of possession and more shots on target, a Hooper strike and Ulises Davila penalty were enough to give the Nix a 2-1 win.

Agree 100% but welcome to football. EVERY player milks “injuries”. Don’t blame the players, blame the leagues across the world who let players get away with it.

And HOW is it full time right on 5 minutes of injury time when Reddy just milked another 30 seconds of fake injury? Nix with so so many chances, but no luck with either their chances or the ref...
