Count preview:

Brownlow night is upon us! It’s time for the AFL’s elite to kick back and let their hair down – well, those who don’t have a grand final to play in this weekend at least. Join The Roar for every vote from the 2016 Brownlow Medal count live, starting from 7:30pm (AEST).

The Brownlow is the biggest night on the AFL calendar, a red-carpet, black-tie event where the most prestigious indvidiual award in the league is given out.

Tonight, Patrick Dangerfield from Geelong is the red hot favourite to come away with the medal in hand. He’s had a spectacular first season for the Cats.

Dangerfield first burst onto the scene as one of the league’s elite players in the 2012 season when Brenton Sanderson, then in his first year of coaching the Adelaide Crows, made the call to move the speedy half-foward into the midfield full time.

After accruing just nine Brownlow votes in four seasons before then, Dangerfield collected 23 in the 2012 season, part of a strong Crows outfit that made it through to the preliminary finals before a narrow loss there to Hawthorn.

He has been a regular near the top end of the Brownlow count ever since, though has not managed to equal or better that 2012 count just yet, with totals of 22, 21 and 22 in the last three years.

Tonight after his strongest season yet, he’ll look to post his best numbers yet and hopefully beat all the rest to be named the 2016 Brownlow Medallist.

Dangerfield may be the roaring favourite but a few others worthy of a mention are Dustin Martin and Marcus Bontempelli who’ve both had strong seasons and could be a chance to pull off an upset.

Sydney’s midfield trio of Dan Hannebery, Luke Parker and Josh P Kennedy are all strong candidates but likely steal too many votes off eachother to come away with the prize.

Prediction
I’d like to predict something more exciting but, sorry, I think this one will go to script.

Patrick Dangerfield to win on 29 votes.

Patty "believes in the footy gods" Well they sure screwed you for leaving Adelaide. Crows one weakness was midfield depth. If only you had stayed...........
