Match preview:

South Africa will be desperately looking to bounce back from a historic loss to Italy last week when they do battle with an equally struggling Wales outfit. Join The Roar from 4:30am (AEDT) for all the live scores, highlights and rugby action.

The Springboks have equalled their worst two years of all time with their seventh loss of 2016 to Italy last week.

The Proteas suffered their first defeat in ten years to England a couple of weeks ago following a shaky appearance against the Barbarians before the defeat to Italy.

It was also their first ever loss to the Azzurri as they slipped to a 20-18 loss, heaping a mountain of pressure onto coach Allister Coetzee before the World Cup draw next year.

Wales have been far from terrible as of late, picking up wins over Japan and Argentina throughout the November internationals, but they were less than convincing performances for the Welsh.

They just snuck past the Japanese last week to win by three points thanks to a Sam Davies drop goal in the last minute of the game.

While main head coach Warren Gatland is off as the leader of the British and Irish Lions side, interim coach Rob Howley has spoken of a need for improved performances from his men.

“There is the tinge of disappointment in terms of performance against Japan and we want to put that right,” said Howley.

“Not only are we looking to win this weekend, we want a performance to go with it.”

History is certainly against the Welsh, having lost 28 times to the Springboks from 31 meetings, but seven of the last nine games have been decided by six points or less.

Wales also have plenty of concerns in the points department, having conceded an average of 33 points per game in their last seven internationals.

South Africa haven’t won a single game away from home in 2016 either.

Team News
Wales will be without their skipper Sam Warburton after he suffered a shoulder injury at training, forcing Howley to make one change to his line-up.

Dan Lydiate has been brought into the back row as his replacement alongside Ross Moriarty and Justin Tipuric.

Leigh Halfpenny has been shifted to fullback after sitting on the wing against Japan, pushing Liam Williams onto the wing. Gethin Jenkins will take up the captaincy.

South Africa have made a host of changes in the hopes of avoiding a record eight defeat for the year.

Springboks legend Bryan Habana has been dropped for the clash as coach Coetzee brings in three debutants, Jamba Ulengo, Uzair Cassiem and Rohan Janse van Rensburg.

Flanker Willem Alberts has failed to recover from a neck injury and has been ruled out. Johan Goosen takes Willie le Roux’s spot at fullback with Jamba Ulengo taking Habana’s spot on the wing.

Prediction
Wales are coming into their home test as favourites against a South African side playing for dignity and possibly their coaches job.

It’s been a horror year for the Boks and their performances are nearly impossible to pick.

Wales have kept the majority of their squad throughout the Spring internationals and that cohesion has paid off for them.

Look for the home side to fall behind early against an eager South African side, but the men in red should take the cake in the second half to top off a big year of rugby.

Wales to win by 8

After world rankings, could we see SA drawn in the same pool as NZ for next world cup?

Phew! The worst outcome would've been a comeback win, saving Coetzee's job, dooming us to a 2017 even worse than 2016.

FULLTIME There we go the final whistle goes and the home crowd love the result. South Africa have now had their worst calendar year on record, notching up their eighth loss of the year this morning against a far better Welsh side. Wales were really on top for the entire game despite letting up late and giving the Proteas a sniff. Errors and poor ball handling hampered the Springboks at nearly every turn and they were just unable to break a stern and stubborn Welsh defence. The first half was all about the penalty goals, but there were a few tries in the second stanza before man of the match Justin Tipuric finished off the game with a try in the final five minutes of the game. Wales – 27 South Africa – 13

79' Big scrum from South Africa and they win a penalty off the scrum as Wales fall back. OH NO!! They try to take the quick kick for touch, but the kick has been duffed and Halfpenny easily keeps it in the field of play. The story fo South Africas night. Wales – 27 South Africa – 13

78' South Africa try the short kickoff but it doesn't come off, although they do get the scrum two phases later thanks to a John Davies knock on at halfway. Wales – 27 South Africa – 13

77' TRY WALES!!! That has to be the game now!! Justin Tipuric has been one of the best on the field today and this is just reward for a big game. Nothing fancy from the Welsh on that play, just a draw and pass in midfield and Tipuric latches onto the short ball, jogging the final 20 metres with a bit of a right foot step to beat the fullback and cross the paint. Wales – 27 South Africa – 13

76' Wales playing safe through the middle at the moment, just nudging forward towards the line while retaining possession. Is anyone setting up back in the pocket? Faletua takes a big run up through the guts. Wales are making a lot of ground now, inside the 22. Wales – 20 South Africa – 13

75' Jonathan Davies keen to stay on the front foot and attack the Boks. He takes it wide to the left wing probing for space, but he's caught running sideways and the Springboks just help him on his way over the sideline. WALES STEAL THE LINE OUT!! That is huge. If Wales score at all right now that would have to be the game. Wales – 20 South Africa – 13

73' No not a smart penalty against Wales. Pulling down the jumper in the line out is a rookie error and South Africa have been gifted a free ticket back up field into enemy territory. Wales – 20 South Africa – 13

72' South Africa return serve off the kickoff but Wales want to fire back on the counter attack. Davies nearly makes it through, but he taken out in the end and the Boks will get the throw in on the line out. Wales – 20 South Africa – 13

70' South Africa want another line out. They drop into the maul and Wales have fallen off the side nearly instantly... THEY'RE IN!! TRY SOUTH AFRICA!! They're finally over the line and this has suddenly become a very interesting contest with 10 minutes to go. Half the Welsh maul fell off straight away and they couldn't recover from there. A bit of resistance did it's job, but it's Uzair Cassiem who falls over the line. Wales – 20 South Africa – 13

69' Huge push from South Africa!! They steal the the ball against the feed and win the advantage as well. Mapoe wants to take on the line just ten metres out... but he's spilt the beans!! The ball movement was far too slow from the back of the ruck and a big numbers advantage goes begging on the left wing. They have the penalty to fall back on in the end. Wales – 20 South Africa – 6

68' Straight into the maul unsurprisingly. Wales are holding strong but the Boks are beginning to roll here. The maul comes down... and Wales have been awarded the turnover!! It was a bit of a mess once the ball hit the deck, but the ball wasn't coming out and the home side have done enough to win themselves a scrum. Wales – 20 South Africa – 6
