Manly announce immediate release of Jackson Hastings

By Matt Encarnacion / Wire

Manly have announced the immediate release of unwanted utility Jackson Hastings.

The departure could pave the way for the Sea Eagles to promote young hooker Manase Fainu into their top-30 squad, meaning a possible NRL debut against Penrith on Saturday.

The Sea Eagles also confirmed forward Shaun Lane, who has been linked with a long-term deal with Parramatta, has rejected a three-year deal to remain with the club and will leave at season’s end.

Clearing him from their 30-man-squad means they can blood Manase Fainu, who's been lighting up the U20s. Nobody wants to see Lewis Brown at hooker. No disrespect because he's a solid player, but objectively, his passes out of dummy-half are woeful.

Mate, I'm just concentrating on my bowling now. The Comp is the poorer for the Dogs and the Eagles dropping the ball week in and week out. If Shakespeare was still around I bet he'd be able to turn out a pearler ranking alongside Othello and The Scottish Play.

What is sadder is he would be a better than any option they currently have...

It's like Manly have chopped off a toe to see if another one grows back. Lewis Brown will do a great job at hooker!!!

His job is to win football matches. Hard to do that if you can't get on the paddock. I imagine his whole life he's been told he's awesome. Not his fault his brain is mush because no one ever took him down a peg.

Disappointed to see him go, and the circumstances surrounding it. Really thought he’d eventually slot into the halves long term. Terrific talent who will do well overseas.
