Match preview:

The Brisbane Lions have a chance to score two wins in a row when they host the Carlton Blues. Join The Roar for live scores from the match at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon in Round 16 of the 2018 AFL Season, starting from 1:45pm AEST.

The Lions have hit good form right now – last week they picked up their second win of the season by just about humiliating the Fremantle Dockers at Optus Stadium.

The Dockers have generally been a pretty good side at home this year, but didn’t look like it when the Lions came to visit, going down by 55 points on Sunday night.

Brisbane too have been known for stronger form at home, which made it all the more impressive that they were able to score such a resounding win on the road.

Carlton on the other hand still have only a single win for the year – one they snuck over Essendon a while back. The memory is fading fast.

Carlton find themselves with a 1-13 record at this stage of the season and if they don’t find some more points soon, will be staring down their fifth wooden spoon this millennium.

No other club in the competition has won more than two in the same time.

This match may well be one of the crucial battles in terms of deciding who will come away with the No.1 draft pick at the end of the year.

If Carlton lose it’s pretty much theirs – they’ll be two wins behind both St Kilda and Brisbane with little hope of making up that gap.

But if the Blues’ defense can frustrate the Lions and they score a win, the clubs will be level on two wins each and the race right on.

Expect No.1 pick candidates Jack Lukosius and Sam Walsh to be watching with interest.

I have been a member of Carlton Football Club for 5 years now and after a season like this so far this is the worst they've ever been so much I have tipped them every game hoping they would improve and have a few more wins than this. To have 1 win from 16 games is terrible I won't be tipping them for the rest of this season and if they do happen to win when I tip against them it won't bother me. I won't be a member next year only a supporter as a non member.I can't believe how they can go backwards from last year's result to what they have produced this year. Jean

Year 9 Drama improvisation doesn't rank as a footy comment.

Well, I'd say sacking is more the idea of people who have no idea. Improving, adjusting and correcting would be the answer. That takes time. Bolton is dealing with problems created over the last decade. It will take another few years to become competitive. One thing certain, anon. Not one person is ever going to listen to one of your opinions. You'd sack a newborn from its family if it wet its nappy.

It's the coach's job to question and challenge them. These players wouldn't have made it to the AFL to begin with meek efforts. Wouldn't be tolerated in junior grades. If the coach can't get them on the same page then get someone who can. Boss: I asked for that report today why didn't I receive it. Me: Sorry I asked one of my guys to bring me the numbers but he didn't feel like giving 100% today. My department is in a rebuilding process. Boss: How many years do you need for this rebuild? 5 years. Here's a contract.

You make a list of candidates and interview them. That's why the highly paid off field department exists at a club.

You're alone in your thinking there. Maybe you are measuring him against that "Ridge" fella.

There are 18 or 19 players whose weekly performances you might question before you challenge Bolton. He doesn't have a lot to work with.

Haha we won’t get anything for those players. Casboult maybe a low draft pick. The others wouldn’t get a game elsewhere.

Blue day for Carlton, as Lions roar to victory. The Brisbane Lions have secured their third victory of the season and heaped more pressure on Carlton and their coach, Brendon Bolton with a thumping 65- point victory at the Gabba. The Blues started the game well and controlled much of the first term, winning the contested possessions (35- 25), inside 50s (15- 7) and tackles (14- 11). However, Carlton were unable to capitalise on their dominance, booting 2.5 for the term. The Lions, conversely, made the most of their limited inside 50 forays, booting 3.1 to lead at quarter time. Brisbane blew the game wide open in the second term, booting 5.6 to just one behind, as they took a comfortable 37- point lead into the main break. Any Chance of a Carlton comeback was snuffed out in the third term, as the Lions piled on six goals to two and turned for home 63- point leaders. Carlton at least gave a yelp in the final term, booting three goals, but it was an overall deplorable effort from the Blues, who have been very competitive in their past two matches against Collingwood and Port Adelaide. Brisbane finished with over 100 more disposals than the Blues (442- 297), and, tellingly, took 24 marks inside 50 to Carlton’s eight. Remarkably, Carlton won the inside 50 count (51- 49), despite losing by more than 10 goals. The Lions’ win sees them move two games clear of bottom- placed Carlton and they will move up to 16th on the ladder, should Gold Coast lose to North Melbourne, as expected. The Lions had winners all over the ground. Former skipper, Dayne Beams was enormous, with a game- high 40 disposals, nine marks, eight clearances and a goal, while Eric Hipwood booted a career- high six goals. There wasn’t much to smile about for Carlton, but three goals to Charlie Curnow, as well as Lochie O’Brien’s first career goal would have given Blues’ fans some reason for optimism. Okay Mr Know-it-all, who exactly do you bring in to replace him?

Surely you'd sack the fool who signed him up until 2020. Not like anyone from another club would have been scheming to sign up Bolton.

The alternative is find a better coach. Since when is abject failure for 2.5 seasons acceptable? Bolton tried to be more attacking last year but the club only went backwards. He hasn't delivered anything he has promised, just given more excuses, created more alibis. If supporters think Carlton's effort in 2018 is acceptable then good luck to them. Not my team.

I'd be wanting to see what they can do with a new coach in the remaining games. It's not a perfect science. Most clubs are afraid of making mistakes. Everyone content to fly under the radar. But hey, why not stick with something that hasn't worked for 2.5 years.

Essendon got close with 61% in 2016, but GWS had finished with a whopping percentage of 46.17% in 2012, and Gold Coast had a percentage of 56.27% the previous year. It's more common than I thought actually . . .

Yes true but what is our alternative now? We have stripped our list back. We ain’t giving away number one draft pick ... perhaps we can get something for Rowe lamb or Casboult

There is faith in a rebuild and blind faith. This is starting to get challenging for Carlton.
