Kurtley Beale avoids sanction over controversial videos

By Steve Larkin / Wire

Kurtley Beale has avoided any sanction from Rugby Australia for appearing in two videos purportedly involving drugs.

A day after Beale apologised for appearing in a video from 2016 laughing at a man consuming a white power, another emerged on Wednesday also appearing to involve an illicit drug.

After Beale met with Rugby Australia’s integrity unit, chief executive Raelene Castle says no formal disciplinary action will be taken over his appearance in the videos.

Can't believe a guy who we can't prove did anything wrong has got off like he didn't do anything wrong.

Mate he's been getting away with it for a decade. I don't think he's the one who needs to wake up.

Brad Thorn is a poor example. We don't need to go from one end of the spectrum to the other. Whilst I think Beale is a bit of a grub and one of the key beneficiaries of player power, there's really nothing sanctionable here, especially with the time that has passed. Let's perhaps stop trying to call these blojes 'heroes' and holding them to impossible standards when most never matured past high school.

Pedestals, pedestals when will executive sports administrator protect their sport, responsibilities and not their salaries. We have cricket wallowing in the weeds, we now have certain tennis players thinking they are above the game. But Kurtley is a multiple litigant who has never been seriously disciplined for any of his antics off field. Raelene appears full of forgiveness which must leave a very sour taste in the mouth of coaches and others associated with the sport. Who believe, ethics, smart contracts and controlled professionalism are the corner stone of all skilled professions.

Of course he does. The lack of accountability within the Wallabies has been adequately demonstrated for more than 5 years so why would anything change now? I wonder when the penny will drop that all this self centred attitude where players, coaches, managers and everyone else don’t have any accountability for their actions is part of why the team is going backwards.

While not surprising in the least, this takes some air out of the wallaby ball before it's even kicked in 2019, a RWC year.........and that ball is already in very poor shape, like it's been left in yard to perish in the sun for a few years. I'm far from perfect, but this is making me warm to Thorn's stance. Maybe this time next year I might feel some hope and optimism about our national team.

Beale, sadly, is always going to get involved in these sorts of things. Such a pity to see such a talented person waste the gifts he has been given. One sees it so often...James O'Connor, Cipriani in England, Zac Guildford in NZ....and long ago in soccer, Georgie Best.

Ding ding ding we have a winner... all this started back on the flight with Link. The players were the ones who should have been sent packing and not the coach. By allowing link to walk they Opened the door to this and now look where Aus rugby is. Since then with the exception of 2015 the wallabies have been average at best and the players are to blame as much as Cheika. They take for granted what they have and the fans have had enough.

I'm afraid that nothing is going to improve for the Wallabies until this culture changes. And whether RA know it or not, that culture is set by them. KB is an habitual offender.

He is a protected species in Australian Rugby - has been involved in incident after incident for several years now and his form both on the Field and off the Field is very poor. Nobody is surprised with these Videos - He needs to wake up and realise his actions can't be hidden by his Minders and Mates all the Time - KB is past his use by date I'm afraid
