2019 Super Rugby Semi-Finals: Who plays who, when and where

By The Roar / Editor

A dominant 38-13 win over the Sharks on Saturday night has Australia’s only remaining Super Rugby franchise, the Brumbies, only one win away from making it into the 2019 Super Rugby Final.

The Brumbies will travel to Argentina to face the Jaguares, who have made it through to the semis with a win over the Chiefs yesterday, 21-16.

The other semi-final will be yet another high-profile clash between New Zealand’s two dominant supersides, the Crusaders and the Hurricanes.

Should the ‘Saders take the win in that match – as they’ll be favourites to do – then they’ll have the rights to host another Super Rugby grand final in Christchurch.

If it’s the Hurricanes getting an upset, then they’ll have to travel to either Argentina or Australia, depending on whether the Jaguares or Brumbies win the first semi.

That match will be played at Estadio José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires in the early morning of Saturday 29 June – at 9:05 AEST.

Then, the all-New Zealand derby will take place at AMI Stadium in Christchurch at 5:35pm later that same day, AEST.

“It has its challenges but we love getting on the road,” said Brumbies coach Dan McKellar.

“The boys just enjoy each other’s company and love being around each other.

“I’ve never seen a tighter group of footballers. There’s a special feeling and you don’t get that very often within a football team and when you do have it you’ve got to take advantage of it and cash in.

“We’ve always toured well so we won’t be looking at the travel as a negative or something that’s going to be an excuse.

“You’ve got to embrace it. Finals footy is tough and travel is part of Super Rugby. It’s not new to us, it won’t scare us.”

Chief try after a knock on advantage that was finish after a quick punt from Jags that did not even go 10 meters and terminated in a ruck that favor the Chief in the same place than the original knock on... Jackson stealing the game??? No, but a mistake (?) that put him under unnecessary scrutiny for being an ex Chief Player... A SANZAAR mistake!!!!

Hopefully a Big Chunk of our wallabies team. If Banks isn't named our #15 after that performance, Cheika is going to need start a go fund me page for to pay the medical expenses for unexpected reconstructive surgery after the metaphoric beating he will get.

Brumbies love going on the road, because, well,… the alternative is staying in Canberra,… in winter. Sorry Fionn,

If ever there was evidence of a new much needed core to the Wallabies it was this weekend. I'd be building the side around the Brumbies front row, Arnold, Samu and then Christian L, with Banks running off him and Kirandrani as our only possible #13. Powell showed he does have pace and is the clear #2 half. This is a changing of the guard. No longer can we have the spine of the Wallabies - Beale, Foley, Simmons, Kepu, Hannigan backed up by Phipps, Latu, AAC on the bench.

Chiefs number 8 should have been carded and penalty try awarded when Moroni scored the try. That was a cheap shot.

The Jags will be too good for the Brumbies at home and will get affected by the travel which is extensive to Argentina - the Canes will fight hard but the Crusaders will be too strong and well drilled in the end and the Final - well as anyone with half a rugby brain could tell you - once the Crusaders nailed their home run finals including the final - seriously as far as I am concerned it was all over bar the shouting as soon as they nailed that - they have never been beaten at home in a finals game and this year won't be any different - title number 10 coming up - put their name on the trophy now folks- just too much class all over the park and the best coach in the super comp. Is it a forgone conclusion - no but as close as gets to being so.

Yeah those putting jackson in a difficult position on pure perception alone should pull their heads in. Nothing to suggest he favoured either side deliberately. At times he didnt ref well, but the perception was about bias, not competence. Suggesting he should have reffed another match isnt going to improve his competence. But hey, next time theyll all cone out crying foul pre match again, not having learnt from this occasion. I mean whos gonna cone out and say they were wrong? Only those who understand they were of course. I dont expect anyone on that basis.

Yeah and referee Jackson favoured the Jags to ensure it was not an issue - especially in the final 10 minutes, 6 or 7 penalties not awarded against the Jags in their 22.. and first offene by Chiefs, bang, penalty.. Chiefs were hard done by despite their inaccuracy during the game.

Mean while the Western Force beat the strong Fijian Latui 45-24 in Perth in front of nearly 13,000 rugby fans, to claim the Pacific Showcase Series trophy in GRR. A wonderful fast moving game with lots tries, including one 9-point power try by the Fijians. Andrew Deegan at flyhalf for the Force had a great game running the ball, as well as setting up his outside backs. https://cdn2.rapidrugby.com/content/uploads/2019/06/22030749/GettyImages-1157362697.jpg

Absolutely Glen Jackson’s fault, you know he played for the Chiefs too?

Chiefs needed to be as clinical as they were in Suva, but couldn't step up this time; too many handling errors. Jaguares/Brumbies should be another cracker. Bulls were threatening; once again it was too many handling errors that made the difference. Feel happy for Rayasi to get two tries, but that penalty try/yellow card did almost cost the 'Canes the game. Crusaders still looking the goods. Can anyone stop them? I blame Glen Jackson.

Yep me too...still reeling from the West Indies match. What a finish, though they had no right to even have a sniff but for Henrys over....whew. More of that please...I think. Saders have got to be beaten at home, do that, and its anyones I reckon, canes would have to travel regardless of the BA game.

Crusaders vs Jaguares final for mine. Will take a massive effort from the Canes to overcome the red and black machine, while travel will again be a factor in the other semi.
