VOTE: Wallabies DIY player ratings from Bledisloe 2

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies hopes of breaking their long-standing Bledisloe Cup and Eden Park hoodoos came to a swift and bitter end on Saturday, taken away from them in the space of four minutes.

≫ Match Report: Wallabies walloped 36-0

Richie Mo’unga was the man to draw first blood with a try in the 28th, but one shortly after from Aaron Smith in the 31st – both converted by Mo’unga – seemed to take the game away from the Wallabies before the first half even finished.

The Wallabies ultimately were unable to find even some consolation points, and lost the match 36-0.

What do you take out of a performance like that? Perhaps there’s something to be gained – either highlighting positives or pointing out problems – by looking at the individual performances. That’s what we look to do in our DIY player ratings.

If you’ve not done our DIY player ratings before, it’s a simple enough process. Hit up the form below and rate each player from 1 to 10 based on their performance. We’ll keep track of the results and publish our findings tomorrow.

You’re free to rate players as you like with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest – or toss an NA on any player not worth rating – but if you’re looking for a bit more detail than that, our handy little guide might help you make your judgments…

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a squad of such depth.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Might as well have been John Eales.

we'll allow you honorary reds supporter status when relevant. but you are spot on. that utter mess is on every player. beale was horrible - he really is rocks and diamonds and sadly, too often it is rocks. but so were the rest of them. was i dreaming or did our much vaunted forward pack get manhandled in scrums like a rag doll, when they had 8 men against 7? that augurs well for the WC. it was as though they had read reports about how good they were (and they really are not) and felt entitled to the win without a moment's hard work. that comes back to the captain, every player, the coach and all the staff. the entire thing was dire. and not even foley to blame (the worst thing about all this is that such a miserable effort might see him back - and even i, who has as low opinion of him as is imaginable, would have to confess that he could not have been worse than the lot on the field). what an embarrassment. as someone said of an entirely unrelated mob, they are so hopeless that they could not pour water out of a shoe if the instructions were on the sole.

   If I was Australian, I'd probably be a Reds supporter since that's where my bros live. But I'm not on both accounts. Certainly not a Warratahs supporter and certainly not a soft in the head Beale supporter. I am being objective, you are clearly not if you think Beale single handedly cost Australia the test. Every single player wearing a canary yellow jersey on Saturday was adjectivally useless. Did O'Connor even play? O'Connor has played two tests since his return. One good (in which Beale was even better) and one bad in which Beale was also bad. Before his time in purgatory, he was incredibly unreliable. So you can only take what you have in front of you. Two games. One good, one bad. Just like Beale. As for Hodge? He was so pasted by Bridge, that the player people are saying that got burned was LSL. Hodge was so smashed, he wasn't even noticed. Banks better against SA B than Beale against an All Blacks A? If that's how you make your judgements, Australia will thank you for not applying as a selector.

@PeterK yes and there were only about 5 good WB players in that performance against the Boks. And Banks was one of them imo - at least he was safe and made no errors. He was plenty good enough to deserve another run at fullback. But by Auckland he wasn't even in the 23. Instead we got Kurtley Phipps Beale who beat the WBs all by himself :)

@Offside Obviously you're another Waratah and KB fan boy ignoring the facts. Hodge and O'Conner are both faster than Beale. Banks in SA was better than Beale in Perth imo. O'Connor unreliable hahaha. It's Kurtley Phipps Beale who's the error prone liability. He lost the Eden Pk game all by himself with 2 gifted tries, 3 dropped high balls, 2 forward passes and a few missed tackles. KB 14 - WBs 0. And it's not the 1st time either - he's been an error prone dud for 3 yrs now. And that's the worst kind of fullback you can have in any team.

Actually, Hodge’s speed is all in those first few steps. His top end speed is nothing special but he gets up to full speed in a couple of steps. That’s how he makes breaks. Defence thinks they have him covered and before you know it he’s got a break.

All part of the plan to lock Foley in for the World Cup. He'll be nice and rested after the tough Super Rugby campaign.

Well, The CLL experiment is over. Terrible game by him. The first kick off set the tone. And missing 2, very gettable kicks further showed his inability to handle Tests. Our front 5 were belted in the first half at scrums and acceoss the park. What a difference a week makes.

Hodge is too slow, O'Connor too unreliable, Banks performance against SA wasn't a bean on Beales in Perth (since we need to compare one offs with one offs). Toomua is a versatility back at best. Jack of all trades, master of none. Folau is a mile ahead of any of them.

Every single player looked like they where still in the pub in Perth having wind blown up their clacker. Some where worse than others but none looked like they where mentally in nz to win... they lack any clinical ruthlessness. Should they knock out nz st the cup I’d take that as being as good as winning it or I’d at least get as much satisfaction

Banks was about 5th best against the boks, he was solid only would be a more accurate way of saying it rather than he was one of wallabies best against the boks.

it is obvious he is best as an impact player. He did that well in Boks game but then rewarded to start against Arg where he was good ok not close to boks form. Did play well against AB's first game if you ignore all the missed tackles, and as predicted he would be poor in the wet under the highball and would continue to miss a lot of tackles. It should be clear he is best used as an impact player. Also obvious is that Hodge should be at f/b and not on the wing, he is not fast enough off the mark and is beaten easily by fast wingers. This means 2 speedsters in Koroibete and Banks could be the wingers.

@Offside Totally irrelevant. Aust has 3 better fullbacks available to play - Banks, Hodge, O'Connor - even Toomua. Banks got 1 chance in a well beaten team against SA. He was the form FB all of 2019. He was one of the WBs best players against SA. Then dropped for dud Kurtley Phipps Beale :)

Not a single Wallaby deserved a 7. Genia deserved a 6, Tupou deserved a 3, no one else deserved higher than a 2 based on the suggested criteria for ratings.

Only for 70 minutes. The 10 we had to play with 14, we still outscored the Wallabies
