JWH sweats on MRC after sickening hit

By Steve Zemek / Wire

Sydney Roosters pair Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Zane Tetevano will learn their fates on Friday after being put on report in their NRL loss to South Sydney.

The Sydney Roosters could be without two of their enforcers for the start of the finals as the pair come under the scrutiny of the match review committee for heavy hits that floored their opponents in the 16-10 loss.

Waerea-Hargreaves was penalised for collecting Liam Knight high – a hit that knocked out the Souths prop, left him bloodied and forced him from ANZ Stadium on a medicab.

While it can’t be argued the Kiwi Test front-rower hit his opponent high, most of the damage was caused when Knight’s head rebounded off Waerea-Hargreaves’ arm and into Lindsay Collins’ head.

“I don’t know what (Waerea-Hargreaves) could have done, (his arm) wasn’t clenched,” Robinson said.

“It was a penalty, you can’t hit the head. But I don’t know what else he could have done.

“It was Lindsay’s (head that did most of the damage to Knight) and they both got split from it.”

However, Waerea-Hargreaves’ poor disciplinary record could count against him.

Earlier this year he was suspended for two games for a dangerous tackle on Newcastle’s Kalyn Ponga.

Tetevano is also facing a stint on the sidelines and is in danger of missing the Roosters’ first finals match, against either Canberra or South Sydney.

Tetevano pulled off a jarring off-the-ball hit on Adam Doueihi, which left the Souths fullback lying on the ground needing medical attention.

After Damien Cook jumped out of dummy-half, he looked to pass in-field and flung it across Doueihi’s face to Junior Tatola, who raced into the back field to set up Cody Walker’s try.

Instead of taking the man with the ball, Tetevano lined up Doueihi and took him out without the No.1 touching the ball.

His defensive error ultimately cost his side a crucial try that gave Souths what proved to be a winning lead.

“It’s a hard one, it looked like it was going (to Doueihi) and it went straight across his face, it was a really hard one,” Robinson said.

You’re unbelievable actually… I made an assumption – which I never once professed to be a fact – based on JDB drinking for 12 hours, taking a girl he’d just met, with a team mate to an empty apartment. I said I didn’t think they were there to play scrabble. You were horrified. How dare you? You don’t know what he was thinking. He could have been there to play scrabble. You don’t know. That’s not proof. You look at a five second video and can tell what a player is thinking “for sure”. You don’t see any double standards there? How come you’ve got these super powers of deduction and I don’t? What can I do to become as smart as you Greg?

Yes, he did. Of course it didn’t happen in a split second when you’re watching it in slow motion

You tell the world what a player is thinking when he enters an apartment based on zero evidence , footage or anything and you can't see the difference in that and someone commenting on a players intentions where they have viewed the actual incident several times? If you think they are close to being the same thing then good luck to you. JWH sets out to maim opponents and I I'll stick to that notion.

Knight didn't drop anywhere in a split second. If you look at the slow motion , Hargreaves is looking down at Knight who is already low well before he is hit. Hargreaves is a specialist in attacking opponents and pretending it's an accident. The attempt and partial success in maiming Ponga fooled plenty but I'm not one of them. The bloke has form over a long period and the benefit of the doubt is on very thin ice with this wild thing.

What is wrong about the Burgess suspension is that it was not in any way a serious offence. Wrong, yes but a penalty is sufficient especially when compared to Smith's ear rubs and the Cronulla player putting knees into the head of an opponent with the results "noting to see here". When you consider what Sam B did and previous brother George getting two weeks for throwing an empty, plastic water bottle that went near no one then there is cause to think of victimisation from the MRC and one on there in particular!

What are you talking about? JWH is in trouble with the refs and suspended all the time. This is his third charge of the season - just like Burgess the Barber Beefcake Don’t accuse me of being biased and being a hypocrite and claim things like “at least I admit it”

How is defending a JWH tackle evidence I have anything against Sam Burgess? It’s up to you to believe what you want but I like Burgess as a player far, far more than I do JWH. How am I only throwing Souths players under the bus ? Typical Souths fan paranoia conspiracy theory nonsense. I’m not the self appointed anything. All I’ve written here is that JWH won’t get more than a one week ban for that tackle and that’s exactly how the MRC has seen it. It’s you that’s extrapolating it out to anything more than that. The fact Knight dropped in the tackle isn’t a defence to get him off. It was still contact with the head but it does speak to the severity of the tackle and the grading. You have your opinion about the tackle flavoured by your support of Souths. I have my impartial view as a fan of neither team.

You Souths fans are next level whenever your team is involved. What does Cameron Smith have to do with this? I certainly never supported him and the reason I didn’t comment was I saw that a couple of days after it happened and most of the fire was out of the issue. It’s irrelevant. I’ve never once defended Graham’s ear bite on Slater. It was a grub act and he deserved what he got. I don’t have to put up anything on that - I’ve said that since day one. I don’t think Graham hit Surgess deliberately. My opinion on this is no more subjective / objective than yours. Here’s my reason: their contact was face to face. I’ve never seen someone headbutt someone else with their face. Graham didn’t lead with his head, it was a classic body check tackle that those two have made on one another plenty of times, where their faces made contact. If you don’t agree with that fine, but FFS let it go...this repetitive harping on about it at every opportunity is tiresome. Tyrrell’s another matter Graham did lead with his head...but let’s be honest he got knocked out in more games than he stayed on. I don’t know what the third one is. As for reaching back to 1988...give it a rest. 31 years ago! Jesus. I wasn’t the ref, it wasn’t my decision and all the #hanleyducked stuff is tongue in cheek. I thought you were smart enough to pick up on that...most other people are. Anyway, it’s all irrelevant to Slammin Sam getting sidelined. I never said Burgess’ hair pulling was dangerous. But it’s hugely grubby and against the rules. He would have got away with a fine but he’s already exhausted that lifeline by knocking Matt Moylan out. He got the cushiest judiciary decision of the year that day but it’s still “they treat poor Sammy so harshly...” You Souths supporters are constantly looking for someone else to blame. It’s the refs fault for picking on Sammy (btw I found Klein imitating the hair pull on his own bald head pretty funny) or the judiciary or me or a game that happened 31 years ago. If he doesn’t want to get suspended he shouldn’t pull hair, knock guys out or squeeze their wheels. You’re getting angry at the wrong person. If you want to know why it seems people like me are always picking on Sammy...? It’s because he’s ALWAYS doing dmb stuff like this. That was his 17th game this year and his third judiciary charge. When Burgess is playing footy I’m a huge fan. He’s been one of the first blokes picked in my SuperCoach team for the past decade. I’d put him in the top two or three poms I’ve ever seen play in Australia (Hanley would be the other one) but he does all this stuff to himself by acting like an absolute pork chop. By pulling the hair of a young bloke in his first season (who does that?) right in front of the ref on the eve of semi finals he’s maybe blown Souths chance of an upset win in the first week of semis. It’s him and his poor behaviour you should be angry at, not blaming me or James Graham or Cam Smith or Terry Lamb.

I agree that I’m biased. You’ll notice though that plenty of my comments start with “I’m obviously biased here...” or “I have one blue eye and one white eye” but I’m happy to be called on it when I don’t. But even in my most pro Bulldogs rant I try to come up with a constructive reasoned objective analysis (not always successfully). I certainly don’t sink to hyperbole like “nearly fatal” tackles to make my point. #hanleyducked :silly:

Yet JWH has been guilty of SO MUCH and penalised so little during his grubby career. He can take a week for this charge and still be way ahead of ever facing appropriate justice for all his grubby illegal acts.

FOUR Rabbitohs players got taken out by high shots to the head (Knight, Sutton, Reynolds and Tatola). They can't ALL be "accidents"! Clearly there is a pattern and it was a calculated risk by the Roosters. Just like when Braith Anasta and Anthony Tupou combined to hold Craig Wing up for Riley Brown to run 5 metres and hit him in the back to dislocate Wing's shoulder and put him out of the game for 7 months! It was a tactic coached by Brad Fittler as payback for Wing's defection in returning to the Rabbitohs.

"Knight dropped to waist height in a split second." THAT has been the essence of Sam Burgess's defence and that of every other player up on a charge for a high shot. You can't pick and choose and continue to only throw the Rabbitohs players under a bus. Time to take a long hard look in the room of mirrors and admit that you are clearly biased against the Rabbitohs and you have it in for Sam Burgess in particular just as I do for Cam Smith. At least I am honest and upfront about it and I don't pretend to be the forum's self-appointed sheriff and pretend that I am impartial and fair.

You are such a hypocrite TB! You didn't say a word against Cam Smith when he grabbed a player's ear and put pressure on his temple to keep him pinned to the ground but you CHOOSE to be outraged whenever Sam Burgess is involved in any indiscretion. You also make excuses for James Graham intentionally and with malucious forethought headbutting 3 different players in 5 attempts in the SAME game, the 2014 GF and Terry Lamb taking out Ellery Hanley in the 1988 GF. What about James Graham biting Billy Slater's ear in the 2012 GF? Clearly a consistent tactic by the Bulldogs to win premierships by foul play! What Sam did was unacceptable and unnecessary but NOT dangerous in any way. What Tetevano did to an unsuspecting player NOT in possession WAS dangerous and could have caused a concussion or some other injury. Unless you are consistent, fair and rational there is no point debating this with you. At least I came down hard against Liam Knight's "chicken wing" and George Burgess's eye gouge. Time to put up or shut up mate!

"You can’t be relied upon to be objective when either the Rabbitohs or Roosters are involved" Like you are objective about James Graham going on a headbutting rampage in the 2014 GF or "Baa Baa Black Sheep" climbing up a step ladder to knock Ellery Haley's lights out in the 1988 GF? Put down the stones before you shatter your glass house TB.

I've had a good look at the replay and Hargreaves is looking straight at his target, which was Knights head, when Knights head was already low. He knew for sure that Knights head was ripe for the hitting and carried thru. Mission completed.

If Tetavano was to be charged then for the sake of consistency, Sua would have to be charged for a similar tackle on a player not in possession.
