Bucks believes in Jordan De Goey's Magpie love

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley is confident only a financial offer he couldn’t refuse would lure off-contract star Jordan de Goey away from the AFL club.

The Magpies’ big task following Saturday’s humbling 68-point semi-final loss to Geelong at the Gabba is securing the future of off-contract star De Goey.

The 24-year-old has previously expressed his desire to stay at Collingwood but rivals, in particular Carlton, are interested in luring De Goey away.

Buckley accepts it’s almost certain the forward will talk to other clubs, given that is the reality of the AFL’s free agency era.

“Jordy loves the club, and he wants to be here,” Buckley said.

“Elements of people on his side would like to see him remunerated as well as he possibly could and we want him to be rewarded appropriately as well.

“That’s what it comes down to, because it’s not for a lack of belief in what the place has done for him and what it brings for him and the opportunity that it provides and the love and care and connection that he has to, not only the club, but in particular his teammates.

“But yes, there still needs to be a monetary outcome that’s satisfactory for both parties.”

Buckley is confident the heavy loss to the Cats, where the Magpies managed just two scoring shots by three-quarter time, doesn’t highlight a need for sweeping change in the off-season.

With uncertainty over just what size lists will be in 2021, the Magpies coach was holding his cards close to his chest about his recruitment goals.

“We feel like we’ve got a really good handle on what we’ve got and what we need, and we will be as aggressive as we can be,” he said.

“We’ve now won finals in the last three years and not been able to get to exactly where we want to get to, but we’ve got to continue to get better.

“There’s no stopping. There’s no slowing down in that regard.”

Like I said in my previous comment questions "raised to you over time". If you can't be bothered reading a comment properly then maybe you shouldn't say anything.

There will always be repetitive posts. The only time it will be silenced is nights such as Saturday just gone. Ohhh what a night

Kane “Yet when pressed on Buckley taking a premiership side, dismantling it then going missing for 4 years you also go missing.” Then I reference an entire article I wrote above which directly replies to his question. Kane then repeats I didn’t answer the question. No more to see here clearly. If you can’t click on a link I posted and be bothered reading my reasoning Kane then don’t ask me anything

That article has nothing to do with anything raised to you over time, just because you wrote an article doesn't mean jack. Good to see you have your name calling to go back to.

“Macca the one stat you cant argue is that end 2015 Brisbane and Carlton were 17th and 18th with 4 wins and a percentage under 70.” - Remind me never to catch a train from Flinders St with you Peter - you would think it didn't matter which train you hopped on as long as they were both at the place at the same time.

Why would I Mark? Pies at least have one flag this century, Blues last one 25 years now. In the AFL era Pies have 2, Blues 1.

He should just stay with Collingwood. There's way too much risk with other clubs taking him, and he should be loyal to the club that could just as easily cast him aside as well.

That's where having a Manager instead of your Dad might help. He would know whether to hold them or fold them with due diligence to the court date. Also a bit strange asking him one moment to put the bins out and the next how many zeros on his deal he should accept.

Macca the one stat you cant argue is that end 2015 Brisbane and Carlton were 17th and 18th with 4 wins and a percentage under 70. You will back the Bolton appointment over Fagan and point to academy picks, injuries and Lachie Neale. You missed out on Shiel yeah but really he is a solid contributor at best. Collingwood was in the top 3 injury count in 2018 for best 22 and made the GF. Injuries do hurt, believe me I know with the Pies record. We can argue semantics of why Brisbane have now contended 2 years running and Carlton haven't made finals but really why bother? Carlton have had yet another year of not seriously contending. You think a 6 year path is right, I don't and never will. As for your campaign being over for a month its a reality, deal with it. All this talk about Carlton is wasted keystrokes until you actually do something. I'll say it again. I have had things to deal with this year besides Covid that puts footy in perspective as much as I love it and love the Collingwood Footy club. I hold no hate or have any glee in the Blues demise or 6 year plans but are simply puzzled at your acceptance of it. We can just agree to disagree Macca.
