Wallabies Bledisloe 2 DIY player ratings vs New Zealand: The results

By The Roar / Editor

It might have been a result to forget for the Wallabies at Eden Park, but fans didn’t think the individual performances of most of Dave Rennie’s men were too bad.

Yesterday, we asked you to rate each of the Australian performances in Bledisloe 2, and the results are now in.

There were a plethora of sixes handed out, with that being the most common rating for 11 of the starters, while fives were plentiful amongst the reserves.

The back-row trio of Ned Hanigan, Michael Hooper and Harry Wilson were considered by Roarers to be the pick of the Wallabies. Young number eight Wilson finished with the highest score in the entire side after a physical performance – not bad for a bloke who’d spent time in hospital in the lead-up to the match.

Jordan Petaia, who came on late in the first half for the injured Matt To’omua, was also rated as one of Australia’s best, and forwards James Slipper and Matt Philip were the only others who finished with an average score of six or more.

While there were lots of mid-range ratings, none of the 23 players used by Rennie finished with a rating above seven, while Marika Koroibete and Rob Simmons were given the two lowest scores in the squad.

Here are the full results from the Wallabies’ efforts in Bledisloe 2:

Then again, Ace, Hooper attempts more chasing - impossible to catch - tackles than any other player, and this is what he has always done. This was pointed out by Nick Bishop in a an article last year.

Tate needs a run. He is a guy that constantly challenges defenses and doesn’t just throw the one out pass every time. The ABs telegraphed everything we had. That was also partly due to Oconner at 10 who is much better in the centres with his offload game. We have 2 weeks now. Let’s get Lolesio at 10, Simone at 12 and occoner at 13. Occoner is tackling Bette Ethan anyone in the backline and also has the best offload game. Simone has worked with Lolesio and gets the best out of him.

If toomoa has ruptured his adductor as has been speculated he will likely miss all games for the rest of the year. It is typically 2-3 month rehab injury and in that time he will decondition and will not be up to the pace of international rugby. Much better to give him a prolonged rehab time and be back fit for next year

I wonder if hooper was injured. He looked like he grabbed his shoulder pretty early on and purposely didn’t try and tackle Clark at one point.

Apparently he has been away from his wife for nearly 6 months. That’s pretty tough

Hanigan works hard but not at the breakdown and in close. He likes to be out wider like Wilson and Hooper. You need someone in tight doing the none glory stuff. To me that is Samu.

noticed in the first half that players seemed to be trying to put a shoulder on rather than wrapping arms around, perhaps to combat the expected extra aggression expected after last weeks draw. However AB's simply bumped them off, it looked like a coaching directive to me.

Please do. I can confirm the All Blacks love Hoops - as much as they love an unprecedented winning percentage under his captaincy.

Errr how far does Hooper have to improve? He is rated one of the best players in the world. The ABs rate him very highly. I reckon I will take other opinion over yours.

At least Hoops has a few fans; apparently almost everyone hates 100 test champion, Simmo.

Front row combined for 13 tackles, locks for 19 tackles and backrow for 34 tackles ..... so there is your answer.

A groin injury like that can be difficult to recover from. It seems reckless to have put his career at risk; he is a rare talent.

Fair call, mate. The work rate is extremely low (I am assuming these stats are all correct). 3 attempted tackles each  …and 2/3 missed by Tupou! It wouldn’t surprise me at all if both those players have a rest to contemplate that work load, of lack of, in the next game…

I'd disagree on that description of Hanigan. He was extremely hard working. I do think Samu is a better footballer and would have no issue with picking Samu over him, but not because Hanigan isn't a hard enough worker.

Are we just going to ignore BPA and Tupous tackles? Are there breakdowns cleaned stats? That's pathetic for frontrowers. No wonder Tupou was yanked when you add the kick.
