NRL probes Titans over possible David Fifita salary cap breach

The Gold Coast Titans have been asked to provide more information to the NRL after David Fifita was arrested but not charged after trespassing late last year.

The NRL will probe Gold Coast for a possible salary cap breach after star recruit David Fifita’s arrest late last year.

The former Brisbane star was questioned and released without charge in December after a bizarre trespassing incident on the Gold Coast that was said to be a mix-up.

It was assumed the matter had been dealt with ahead of Fifita’s first appearance in Titans colours this Saturday in a trial game against the Warriors.

But on Tuesday the NRL confirmed they were looking deeper into the incident after NewsCorp reported revelations of a payment being made to the family involved in the incident.

It’s understood the probe will centre on whether Fifita or the Titans provided the compensation and whether there are any salary cap implications around the circumstances of that payment.

“The NRL integrity unit is seeking further information from the Gold Coast Titans concerning an incident involving David Fifita,” an NRL spokesman told AAP.

“On the information provided, the salary cap position of the club will not be materially affect.”

The devastating backrower arrived on the Gold Coast on a three-year deal worth more than $1 million a season to boost the club’s hopes after finishing no better than eighth since 2010.

In a statement on Tuesday the Titans confirmed their cooperation with the NRL’s investigation and expressed confidence they remained salary cap compliant.

It isn’t the first incident of this nature Fifita, who turns 21 later this week, has been involved in.

He spent three days in a Bali jail in 2019 following a run-in with a bouncer and was forced to negotiate a “peace agreement” before he was released and able to fly home.

A lengthy NRL integrity unit investigation then took place, but no further action was taken.

That took 4 days to form that reply. In fairness, Keza probably had to wait until dole day to buy some credit.

Um nice one. You seriously used the example of someone immune from prosecution. The impeachment debacles are an additional hurdle that has to be overcome just to try him. And it's a bloody high hurdle to jump, just look at the Clinton impeachment. I think it was even laid out as to why opinions weren't made as to his guilt in the Ukrainian incident. Trolling is usually quite a simple practice and you've managed to screw that up pretty badly. Is there a single subject on the planet you would be considered passingly knowledgeable on?

Just a couple of lazy attempted impeachment’s and a half witted allegation of collusion with the ruskis... Not to mention his penchant for being piiisssed on by slovakian whoores and pawn stars .. Change ya moniker to Mushy. That’s what’s between ya ears . ... the definition of mush , differs very little from sludge . SO ! from now on you’re Sludge . Cya next time sludge . :tennis:

If the Broncos pull off a miracle and manage to sign him with a huge TPD I think you’ll find Brisbane under a similar microscope if news reports are true.

Andrew, without a doubt. Mitchell seems a nice enough sort of bloke so why would he get involved with this lot. Annesley bailed out pretty quickly when offered a job by NRL. I'm a big Fifita fan and was very disappointed when he left Broncos but maybe he and Tino can make it work. I hope so for Titans sake , otherwise it could be disaster. It always concerns me when high quality player's go to weaker clubs and always struggle.

Fifita will be a lot better than those other 2 high profile duds Big Daddy, Hayne and Cartwright. I still think the CEO of the Titans should have addressed this as soon as the journos got wind of it, would have been done and dusted by now.

Andrew, bit tough on the guy, only been there a month. Hasn't got through the congratulations of back slappers as yet. Hope he's better than the previous lot.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell has been noticeably quiet on this Tony, probably hoping it will disappear.

I'd heard it as Patricia, but I'll go with Patrick for the sake of the start of the thread. Apparently, Pat gave flack after his back, sack, and crack wax. The job was hacked, and now he feels taxed and wracked.
