Parramatta’s Mitchell Moses will make his Origin debut in the series finale on Wednesday night, having pipped the Rabbitohs’ Adam Reynolds for Cleary’s number seven jersey. Canberra’s Jack Wighton also returns to the starting 13, filling the injured Luai’s vacant number six.

Joining Moses in debuting is the Panthers’ Api Koroisau, who has been promoted from the squad to the bench. Meanwhile, Storm rising star Nicho Hynes’ stellar form has been rewarded by being named as the 19th man, though it seems likely Fittler will opt for club teammate Dale Finucane to fill that 18th man role.

The series decider is expected to be played at Stadium Australia in Sydney on Wednesday, July 14, but the venue remains in doubt due to Sydney’s ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

I know it can be difficult to use relevant stats to make a point but if you are there’s only one that counts. Round 12, both teams at pretty much full strength, Souths 38 parra 20. Completely outplayed across the park. But as you say, we can’t heap all that at the feet of Moses, so let’s look at his individual stats… but wait, I’ve already done that and they don’t suggest at all that he is the next best half back. Nor does any other time in his NRL career. This type of selection stinks of the same reasoning that Pearce was picked year in year out.. And, despite Fittler saying it’s a selection that will create the least disruption!!! ( I know right? Crazy) Moses, all things being equal, will never play origin again. Keary, will come straight back into the side in the event of Cleary being injured. Anyway you dice it, it is a baffling selection and cheapens the jumper.

But even so...Reynolds and Walker have been tried and both have had nil impact at all on a team they were supposed to take control of nonetheless. What's wrong with trying a new look? The Rabbitohs duo are going well but have you forgotten either or both of them have failed to put up a challenge against the top two teams as well? And got embarrassed at that? So according to you and your love for stats shouldn't that give an indication that Moses has done much better given Eels haven't conceded 50 points yet? Eels have lost 4 times and Rabbits 3 times but the points difference for Rabbits is lower than that of Eels and even lesser than Eagles. And Eagles have lost 6 times. It's surprising how you state over and over again Moses haven't had any impact on any major games yet the ones you are rooting for have been embarrassed by the two top teams already.

I still think you can add Munster with that top tier of player with Winning the series for QLD last year and what he is doing for Storm this year. He played behind against a dominant forward pack this year in origin and a could barely touch the ball with DCE controlling the team. Cody doesn’t get the respect he deserves and obviously has upset the wrong people. He should no doubt be the number 6 for NSW but I guess you have to be Mitchell Pearce or Clearly to find your feet in origin. Never gave Cody a proper chance. I’m a Newcastle fan but would love nothing more for Cody to prove a lot of people wrong with a premiership this year.

respect your opinion, but Latrell, Cleary, Turbo and Teddy are all a cut above the rest in my view, then Munster, Cody, Luai probably a good second, depends on the week/form of each individual. however an “in form” Munster can be the hard to beat, but so too an “in form” Cody Walker. This year Cody’s game was interrupted as he had to fill in as FB for 4 weeks when Latrell was out, he still lead try assists and has a pile of tries to his name. Know he’s getting back to his best.

They didn’t outplay him, the Bunnies as a whole outplayed them Eels. Are you laying that entirely at his feet. Given that they destroyed the Eels right edge defence and Mitch defends on the left that’s a bit rough. But hey, they were destroyed by both the Storm & Panthers by over 50, in the space of 3 weeks !!!! Guess Reynolds & Walker can’t handle the pressure of big games either.

Not sure about that BM. Walker lost his mojo in his previous Origin chances. It's a struck match between Reynolds and Moses atm. Both good halves - but very different. Moses has more years in him, so makes sense to blood him in a dead rubber.

Congratulations GU on a perfect example of the "no true Scotsman" argument.

It was entirely off the back of Mitch controlling the game

You’re assuming Cleary will be fit for game 1 next year ? What if he blows out his ACL 2 weeks before Origin 1 ? You couldn’t pick Mitch Moses if you didn’t pick him now, so you’d be stuck with picking Adam Reynolds next year , and let’s remember he will be playing for a club who will most likely be a bottom 4 team in 2022. Thus us a common sense selection

I’m a massive Cody Walker fan and he should be NSW number 6. But Munster is on a level with Turbo and Latrell.

Disagree on Api. He’s a weapon that the Blues have not utilised! He will have an influence on game 3.

As a blues supporter I totally support moving Munster out to the centres away from the ball. Ponga may just become a great player but right now Munster is your best player. Possibly the best player on the field.

If that is the case, hopefully there’s some good young halves coming through. Based on his NRL career thus far, Moses is not the answer as a back up

Pearce I agree is not the option after 18/19 failed attempts. To bracket the other two in there is misleading. Neither Reynolds or Walker have had anywhere near those opportunities, in fact, Reynolds has only had 2 games and Cody 3. So to say, their no so great at origin level is a bit difficult after limited game time and not really enough to say “tried and failed”. On the other hand Moses has failed in every big game he has played to date as well as being outplayed by the two mentioned. Anyway, you’re right, Freddy can’t lose, already got the series and if they get beaten it will be “oh well”

Please highlight evidence that suggest he is anything but average.. like, line break/ try assists, important games won on the back of his dominance. Unfortunately some simply listen to agenda driven experts and are unable to form their own opinions based on evidence or reality.

Why would the coach of a team be scared of seeing a player he CAN pick play better than a guy who has already won 2/2 matches?

Tony, that would be "give it to Turbo and if you don't score in 4 tackles kick the sh!t out of it down the other end!"
