Magoulias finds new home for 2022

By News / Wire

Super League club Warrington have announced the signing of Cronulla Sharks forward Billy Magoulias.

The 24-year-old has signed for the 2022 campaign, with an option to extend for another year.

Magoulias, who helped Greece qualify for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, becomes Wolves’ sixth signing for next season, joining Peter Mata’utia, Oliver Holmes, Joe Bullock, James Harrison and Greg Minikin.

“I’m stoked for the opportunity to join Warrington,” said Magoulias following the announcement.

Sports opinion delivered daily

“The club is highly regarded over here in Australia and I can’t wait to get over now and get to work.

“I love a challenge and I don’t shy away from one. I don’t have an issue with getting out of my comfort zone and coming to the other side of the world to test myself.

“Warrington have provided me that opportunity now to show what I can do over in Super League and I can’t wait.”

The 24-year-old played 11 games for Cronulla in the 2021 NRL season.

Magoulias is a genuine reserve grader, not much more

I always thought he was overhyped, which isn't his fault but S.L is a good option for players like him. Plenty of former NRL players look like they're enjoying their footy in Europe compared to the battles they had every week in the NRL.

Would have been a better pick up for the Dragons than Jack Gosiewski

The way Billy anticipated the bounce of the Steeden was 'Hollywood' stuff. He will become a household name in the super league.

I'm happy he's got a contract for next season but think it's a bit sad a young and pretty capable forward can't find a home somewhere in the NRL. Mind you, a stint in English rugby league could teach him some new skills and hopefully he comes back a more rounded player.

That's a shame, I thought he was good, getting better. There's some forward talent at the Sharks at the moment but I had Billy shaping as the N.Brown of that team. The buggar still owes me money when he beat Burleigh with his chip-n-chase in State Champs a few years back.
