Rugby Australia certainly have started 2023 in style, with the controversial coaching appointment of Eddie Jones as head coach.
Dave Rennie has been sent as a castaway to find a new land, while a previous castaway has returned to these shores.
Questions needs to be asked of RA, such as if this is a way to deflect unneeded attention that they have attracted, as well as why it’s a five-year contract when two or three years would have been more valid based on performance, and building genuine depth and a strong culture.
Jones will benefit from Rennie building depth and a united group of players, but discipline is a major problem that needs fixing.
England had discipline issues under Jones and he struggled to progress the team recently, so will coming home refresh him and his thinking?
Overall Jones was the most successful England coach, but many assistant coaches were either sacked or walked during his tenure, ex-players spoke of his military type of training, while clubs complained their players were injured and couldn’t play for them.
Since the 2019 World Cup, England have become stagnant compared to France and Ireland, with losses frequent. This should not happen with England’s resources and financial power.
Now that Jones has been welcomed back, one wonders if RA understand him as much as they should? RA might think that they can control Jones which is naive.
There is going to be a clash of egos and only one will come out on top,
Jones talks straight and will not bow, RA might just have appointed their worst nemesis and he could hold them accountable for their own failings.
Rennie was a more compliant man, while Jones is a gunslinger who shoots from the hip.
Like him or not Eddie Jones will not be restricted by those above him. A new dawn is here so I hope RA are up for the fight!
Whoever comes out on top, lets just hope the Wallabies and their supporters are the real winners.

 you’re arguing about something I never said. I’ve not commented on whether the appoint was ‘right or wrong’. The reality of opinions you’re trying to represent can co-exist with what I said. They are not mutually exclusive. You’ve conflated what I said to being ‘the appointment was wrong’ that’s just not what I said or meant. It’s like me saying, ‘it might be sunny today, but might rain tomorrow’, and you saying, ‘nah, you’re wrong, everyone is happy it’s sunny today!’. Can you see how they are different things?

“If Eddie does what he did when he took over as England coach, win 18 straight tests, the Wallabies would win the: - 2023 Bledisloe - 2023 TRC - 2023 RWC - 2024 Bledisloe - 2024 TRC” Citation: @Nelsonhdale (on twitter), today

It’s not a ‘general consensus’. It’s what you and a few others are expounding as a reason the appointment is wrong. None of us knows what will happen. And the vast majority are not silly enough to think they do. But we want to support Eddie and the team. It’s exciting for many true Wallaby supporters. And most of us supported Dave when he was appointed too. We didn’t flood the comments with negative predictions.

“The vast majority are happy that he is there and want to support him.” “I think the general consensus from all parties and nationalities is that he will do well to start with, but lose momentum… maybe after the Lions tour.” These aren’t mutually exclusive ideas. They can be both be true at the same time you know?

No, not a ‘consensus’. The theme of the critics. The vast majority are happy that he is there and want to support him. Just as we did with Dave Rennie.

G’day WK, I like your choice of song as it suits RA without doubt…

Hi Tim, I agree.I think RAHQs new theme song should be Tip Toe Through The Tulips. Eddies got a bigger stick than he is being credited with.

I will start looking at adding more substance, I just needed to gain confidence as I have not written before. Co writing! I would be concerned about letting you down, but with your help then I would pick things up quicker with better understanding… :stoked:

And that works, I liked the article, I feel there were a few points that, although I understood, could have fleshed out a little. Perhaps we should co write an article? A bit of work though

Thanks mate, I thought that you would appreciate that part in particular. I do not write long articles as prefer to keep them short and to the point.

I did like this article mate, especially the point: Jones talks straight and will not bow, RA might just have appointed their worst nemesis and he could hold them accountable for their own failings.
