All eyes will be on Tim Kelly on Day 4 of the 2019 AFL trade period, as the West Coast Eagles reportedly close in on a deal to prize him away from Geelong.
The star midfielder, who finished fifth in this year’s Brownlow count, is worth more than two first-round draft picks according to the Cats and West Coast, despite having little in the way of draft capital, may be able to pull some strings and get a deal done today.
The Eagles are reportedly happy to part ways with picks 14, 24, 33 and their 2020 first-round pick in return for Kelly and some draft picks from Geelong.
That move could be the loose thread that finally unravels what’s been a very inactive trade period thus far.
The only big development to emerge yesterday was the bombshell that Essendon were in the hunt for Collingwood big man Mason Cox, but Bombers list manager Adrian Dodoro has moved swiftly to deny those rumours.
“It’s an inaccurate report, we’re not pursuing Mason Cox,” he told AFL.com.au, although the need for a key forward-ruck hybrid player if Joe Daniher leaves is still pressing.
