A crowd of 80,000-plus is expected to descend on the MCG for a Sunday afternoon blockbuster between traditional powerhouses and fierce rivals Carlton and Collingwood. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 3:20pm (AEST).
After consecutive losses against the Bulldogs and Tigers, Collingwood bounced back to form last weekend with a strong and determined win against the Dockers in the west. Coach Craig McRae has his team performing well, yet inconsistently and they face a tough test against one of the form teams in the competition today.
Carlton enter this match off the back of four straight wins and a solid effort against Sydney in Round 10 that saw them confirm their top eight credentials once and for all. Whilst some may have been expecting a slip-up at some stage, the contest work of the Blues and wins against fellow top-eight contenders like the Swans have confirmed Carlton as a definite player in the race for a top-four position.
There are few match-ups that ignite such passion and with the MCG in full splendour and an expected crowd of around 80,000, we could be in for something special this afternoon.
Team news sees Collingwood enter with the same line-up that claimed the four points against the Dockers, with Jack Ginnivan remaining one of the hottest tickets in town.
Carlton welcome Jack Newnes and Paddy Dow back into a team that continues to impress even without the presence of Harry McKay up front. It will once again be the duty of Charlie Curnow to provide the imposing target inside 50; and based on his form, Collingwood had best be attentive to his presence.
Prediction
Carlton have the consistency of performance on the board that should see them enter this match as firm favourites. McRae has his Pies playing freely and they can present a danger on any given day.
However, the sheer power of the Carlton midfield will most likely prove far too strong for Collingwood’s mids and off the back of superb clearance work, Carlton should run away with a convincing victory.
Carlton by 36 points.

Yes, they were the better team but I was very surprised at how the Blues came back fighting!

Very fair call Pete. I love it when we win, but I love it much more when that win is against the old enemy! I remember clearly about ten years ago when we were beaten by Carlton twice - I very nearly topped myself! (kidding)

I wish we had him over at Collingwood!

Mostly once Weitering went off 10 minutes into the first? Long time for him to be on him and not be his direct opponent

Direct opponent? I was at the G Macca. Ginni was on Saad in patches. Mostly once Weitering went off the Blues played Saad as a small intercept plus one.

Good player Henry and unsigned beyond this year. Hope Cats don't snap him up.

John he had 9 touches only 4 effective, 1 tackle and 3 score involvements. His direct opponent was Saad who had 27 touches 23 of which were effective and 4 socre involvements. That is pantsed

I reckon Cottrell had him in the second half, I thought Cottrell was really good in the first half) and Sidebottom was too smart. Henry was able to step up becuase Weitering got hurt.

Meant others could step in Macca like Henry. Who was on Sidebottom? Was running wherever he wanted. Ginni has had a great few weeks, he is 19 and hardly played so will have some quiet ones. Mihocek indeed was very quiet.

Absolute and utter rubbish. He missed a couple of shots on goal. You drank too much of the cool aide sunshine, he's just a confident kid with skills. Anyone with any common sense wouldn't buy anything from the South Australian has been cretin who makes a living taking cheap shots from the stands.

Ginnivan was absolutely pantsed today. Not sure Hoskin Elliott or Mihochek had a touch between thrm

If your cheeky blondy kicked straight and passed well, you would have sealed it early. Even Henry had a few chokes. Good exciting win in the end.

Certainly did. Played in 79 and 82 premierships but bad hamstrings brought his career to a premature end.

What are the odds of Cox taking 1 mark let alone 4!! I do think his impact has been overplayed in the media

The Cox intercept marks down the line is where Pitonett was sorely missed. When Collingwood were repeatedly pumping it inside 50 in the 3rd, a contest down the line would have made a world of difference.

He won't.
