Round 12 finishes with a bang as Fremantle, fresh off ending Melbourne’s 17-match winning streak, face the presumptive next-best side in the AFL, Brisbane, at home. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 5:20pm (AEST).
The Dockers had already proved a legitimate top four contender in 2022, but their shock win over the Demons in Melbourne last week made it official: Flagmantle is a real possibility.
With a miserly defence, an underrated but brilliant midfield and small options aplenty up forward, the Dockers caused an injury-plagued Dees outfit havoc with a statement-making win, quite possibly their finest home-and-away triumph.
Things don’t get any easier, though, with Freo needing to back it up against the second-placed Lions. Making it even tougher, spearhead Matt Taberner will miss with a back injury sustained late against the Demons, while first-choice players Heath Chapman and Michael Walters will also be absent with hamstring injuries of varying significance. Nat Fyfe, too, has been sent to the WAFL to make his long-awaited return from a series of back injuries.
The Lions, in contrast, have only gotten stronger at the selection table, with star midfielder Hugh McCluggage back after missing their win over GWS with a hamstring injury of his own.
The Lions have lost only twice this season, and both were by single-figure margins. Up until Freo’s shock win last week, they were clearly Melbourne’s biggest challenger for the premiership, and know a win here on the road would confirm that.
The Lions are averaging a whopping 12 points a game more than their nearest rival – Sydney – but have shown a tendency to leak goals too, as they did against the Giants in the first quarter. While they were able to recover, such a lapse could prove crucial against a defence as miserly as the Dockers’.

You just made one. Talk footy or disappear. I get you're angry at WC but this is not the way to vent Improve.

Watching. The press reports seem to only have watched centre bounces. Around the ground, Fyfe outrun, outstretched and outskilked Kitchen. Marsh cannot run around the ground, it's why he couldn't make it at AFL level. Sub didn't try to run him with Fyfe around the ground.

Now ,Don, I refrain from pejorative comments about your personal characteristics, despite ample opportunities. You are easily triggered and I fear that you lack much of a sense of humour as your shallow response has evidenced. That's OK. I'm glad you have Freo's back.

We’re you watching or listening ? Because Fyfe and marsh were body on body at most contests Doesn’t really matter it was good to see him have a good hard game Get through it It was great a game of footy especially watching Treacy taking great marks and his tap work was terrific The last 2 mins was funny to watch
Don Freo

The whole commentary was about how Kitchen threw everything at him...including the Kitchen family sink. Fyfe was terrific, especially his field kicking to tem mates.

At centre bounces and most of the throw ins he was on Harrison Marsh (7) That’s even according to the commentators !!

i have not been a big gambler since i met my mrs 21 yeara ago, but it still will be a nice win to pay a few bills. Alos backed dees to win a profit, and brisbane and geelong to cover bets. Had a good weekend as alsy backed a 16-1 winner at flemington who missed the start by stormed home. Got to take wins with the many losses.

We need Fyfe in the midfield and we simply don't need him up forward. This idea from ex-footballers is crazy. It's like playing Barry Cable in a back pocket or Polly Farmer at fullback. Fyfe is the AFL's best player in the midfield. He is not top 100 up forward.

Fyfe's opponent throughout was The WA state captain, Leigh Kitchen. Fyfe took him to the cleaners. That game was a celebration of what will be added to the second half of Freo's season.

I'm just praying for a major drought to hit Melbourne in September. Need nice clear skies if there is going to be any chance of Flagmantle

Will be back in Melbourne for that one, can't wait.

I think everyone is forgetting how good the guy is. If we had of lost today the entire media would've been rolling with 'Why did Longmuir leave Fyfe in the WAFL?' Only way Fyfe doesn't play next week is if he picked up covid from being mobbed at Leederville oval (which is a strong possibility)

Agree re Sonny, and probably an element of that was covid with the two losses. Rain forecast next Saturday in Perth so there is an opportunity to redeem ourselves in the wet weather. Where does Fyfe play when he returns? I like Logue up forward, looks more natural up there than as a defender which means Fyfe probably plays mostly mid, with perhaps a pinch hit up front.

I disagree The dockers atm are playing as a team The set up is as a team Fyfe yesterday apart from around the ruck and boundary contest allowed too much latitude to marsh as his opponent Maybe fine at wafl But the dockers at afl level that is not good enough You underestimate a team at the moment you will lose as we have seen all results in the last month. When Fyfe trusts his body at wafl level he will force his way in Saturday was not it. The dockers atm are playing finals footy now ( Gold Coast and Collingwood aside ) ) great wake up though ) Sets them up for very little changes when the finals come around That’s how you win premierships
