Already in excellent touch, the Dockers stamped themselves as a legitimate premiership contender with an upset win over Geelong at the Cattery last week.
With a team defence second only to premiership favourites Melbourne, stars like Andrew Brayshaw in midfield and an underrated but effective forward line, Freo are looking good for a first finals appearance since 2015.
Not even the loss of six players, including last week’s best afield Blake Acres, to the AFL’s health and safety protocols looks like derailing the Docker train. In any case, ruckman Sean Darcy, young defenders Hayden Young and Heath Chapman and debutant forward Jye Amiss make for an excellent batch of inclusions.
The Kangaroos look like facing another long season, ahead of only the COVID-ravaged West Coast on the ladder… and even that’s only by percentage.
Making their chances against Freo even harder, spearhead Nick Larkey will miss through suspension; while defenders Ben McKay and Aidan Corr make for handy inclusions, as does midfielder Jed Anderson for his first game of the season, compiling a winning score is going to be a tough task.
