To me it was a conscious decision to let things go, 24 free kicks in a game is too few and I am sure the Cats should have got free as well but letting things go means missing free and disadvantages a side like the Blues who are the league leaders by a long way in inside 50 tackles and they laid a massive 24 yesterday. But I could even accept that they were just letting things go but when they then pull out a BS 50m penalty because a player 15m away from the mark moved flies in the face of that strategy. Didn’t help my mood when Henry got reported for striking Williams which led to him getting free to kick a goal.

... Also when was the drop kick banned? We had a decision go against us for a "Drop Kick" when a player was tackled and the ump said :holding the ball, you drop kicked it". Will an umpire penalise a player for doing a drop kick?

You think that after bombing away inside 50 with Curnow being taken out of contests (mostly illegally), that the kickers would just pick out one of their own. But no, let's just keep turning it over and be stupid for 4 quarters. After all the hard work in the midfield, they let themselves down with bomb kicks - just dumb footy. While I'm having a rant about stupidity, who's McKays kicking coach. He's not earning his money! When I played back in the day, kicking was a skill and you NEVER dropped the ball 1 metre away from your boot - you guided it onto your boot and just about kicked it out of your hand - much straighter result.

I must agree about some of the umpire's calls. It can cost games. I noticed one umpire really favoured the Cats which is a bit disheartening. I just ask for fairness but umps are human and they probably have favourite teams and players, but never admit it.

We had some shocking kicks outside 50 that cost goals as well.

With inside 50’s 66 to 45 we certainly had the chance to win but as you said we missed some easy shots and also some bad kicking into 50’s didn’t help.

The Cats hurt us on turnover, put better ball users like Saad and McGovern back in, put Cerra into the midfield and Martin and Motlop up forward and things might be different. Given we scored over 100 points I am not convinced the offense was the issue

Great game to be at but completely befuddled by some of the umpiring. To me the Blues did everything they could to lose (terrible turnovers and easy missed shots) with a depleted team and the Cats took their chances and we still just came up short. Looking forward to the rematch

FULL-TIME The Cats make a statement with the win and the Blues will need to rethink a few things considering how well handled their attacking weapons were by the Geelong defence at times. Final Score Geelong Cats………………18..10…118 Carlton Blues……………….15..15…105

FULL-TIME It is the Cats in a ripping game at the MCG. They beat the Blues by 13 points in a match that suggests they will both be there come September. Geelong Cats………………18..10…118 Carlton Blues……………….15..15…105
