A bitter recent rivalry resumes hostilities at the MCG as Richmond take on Geelong in another match with major top-eight implications. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:35pm (AEST).
The Tigers have long been the masters of this duel, claiming several major scalps over the Cats, most famously the 2017 qualifying final, 2019 preliminary final and 2020 grand final. However, the Cats won both matches in 2021 as the Tigers slid out of the finals.
However, in 2022 the yellow and black have surged back into contention, winning five of their last six games to race up the ladder. Last week’s win over Carlton might have been their most impressive yet, the Tigers racking up a whopping 76 inside-50s to down the Blues.
The Cats are also in excellent touch, and with a handy draw to come, are looking good for yet another top-four finish. However, with superstar Patrick Dangerfield to miss again with his calf injury, they’ll need to dig deep to take down the Tigers.
Forward Gary Rohan and the pacy Max Holmes are among the inclusions for the Cats, while the Tigers have lost captain Trent Cotchin and utility Noah Balta, while regaining champion Dustin Martin.

Tom Stewart is a very good player and appears to be a good bloke, but unfortunately he took out a great player who was critical to Richmond winning the game. He was reckless and brutal. An act of contrition will not help him from a lengthy stint as a spectator. As for Dion Prestia and Richmond it has dramatic ramifications in the race for a place in the finals.

I understand you’re upset Oracle and Tom will serve time. I just don’t think it was malicious. Get rid of bumping, got no issue with that as to bump you need to get the contact point spot on. Tom didn’t, was reckless and will serve time but it’s nothing like Ditterich used to do. That’s a theatrical comparison because you’re upset your player was hurt IMO.

I wasn't suggesting you weren't entitled to be affected by the incident, Stu - it was horrible to see Pestia's obvious distress. IMHO it was more a case of appalling judgement to bump and even worse execution which is a false equivalent to Lethal's punch on Nev Bruns which really was assault.

“utterly disgusting and if he doesn’t get six weeks”? Not theatrical? He went to bump and got the head instead of the body. A mistake yes, sickening for Prestia yes, but after the theatrical media lynching of De Goey, exaggerating mistakes is the sort of thing Fox Footy thrives on, which is why I referred to them or the Herald Sun, or Kane Cornes, take your pick. With the De Goey harassment dwindling out , these bin scavengers will be looking for their next villain. I just don’t see Tom Stewart is based on this. Got no problems with the AFL outlawing the bump and sincerity hope Prestia is ok but at the moment it’s legal to bump and Tom simply got him too high and will pay a price for being reckless. If it’s 6 weeks I’ll give the game away. 3-4 weeks and all the best to Prestia who is a great player.

Has happened before and most likely will again one day. In Prestia shoes, I'd feel assaulted.

Actually just my opinion mate. Not theatrical at all. I was actually pretty emotional and found it tough to watch, hence switching off for a bit. I believe I'm entitled those emotions and a view without it being suggested that my words have been created for some other purpose.

The quality of the players in that 89 game were pretty amazing for that era! I’ve watched that game sooo many times. I was 15 and was so proud of Geelong’s effort

i agree, but believe send off would be for any violent action that takes out a player. Too hard to know if it was accidental or deliberate.
