Tom Lynch is back for the Richmond Tigers, just in time to take on his old side the Gold Coast Suns in a must-win clash at Marvel Stadium. Follow along right here on The Roar with live scores from 7:20pm (AEST) as Round 16 begins.
The Tigers head in off a disastrous loss to lowly St Kilda, managing just two goals for the entire night. The two-time reigning champs are impossible to write off, but with a 7-7 record and sitting eighth on the ladder, they look a fair way off their best.
Damien Hardwick has rung the changes to take on the Suns, with key defender David Astbury and key forward Lynch the biggest inclusions. Lynch’s partnership with fellow talls Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch will stretch the Suns’ defence – if the Tigers can give them enough supply.
The Suns are coming off disaster of their own, having lost last week to wooden spoon favourites North Melbourne; but then again, when aren’t the Suns in crisis? The pressure is mounting on coach Stuart Dew following a string of disappointing losses following their bye, and the Suns must show something, anything, in the remaining rounds for him to keep his job.
In good news, captain David Swallow has recovered from concussion and is back in the line-up, as is defensive lynchpin Sam Collins. The bad news is that the Suns will once again go in without a ruckman, Zac Smith having suffered a concussion of his own, while youngster Noah Anderson and midfield bull Hugh Greenwood will also miss.
Hardwick caused a stir earlier this year by criticising the AFL’s decision to schedule the Tigers for a home game at Marvel Stadium, saying yellow and black fans avoid the ground. While this match is a Suns home game due to the COVID-19-enforced lockdown in Queensland, it will be interesting to see how many Tigers supporters can bear the twenty-minute walk from the MCG to Melbourne’s other ground.

Pablo, wouldn’t even respond to flogs. They morph from nowhere under a different identity and don’t even align themselves with a team. So full of envy jealousy and resentment because they haven’t had the joy of celebrating like Tiger supporters. How good was the Killer concert and Jack! How good was it down Punt Road the next day with 25,000 members and the cup presented by Dimma, Cotch and Benny Gale. Can’t take that away from us. Benny wrote the scrip and DELIVERED – EAT EM ALIVE!
