It is an enticing Thursday night primetime clash from Queensland as the Gold Coast Suns host the Western Bulldogs at Metricon Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).
It’s a rare foray into primetime football for the Gold Coast Suns, who have never played on a Thursday (or Friday) night in their history. There is a good reason for their positioning: they have won three of their last five, including a 32-point win over Sydney last Saturday. Before that, they suffered a pair of losses, denting what had been a bright start to the season for the Queenslanders.
The Western Bulldogs also have an excellent run of form at the moment. Notwithstanding an awful loss to Carlton a fortnight ago, the Dogs have been victorious in four of their last five clashes. Their latest win was a 42-point victory over Essendon last weekend, with wins over North, Sydney and the Giants coming before their loss.
The result of this clash will have ramifications for the ladder. The Suns currently sit in the seventh spot. Luke Beveridge’s men – courtesy of that Blues loss – are in ninth. A win to either side tonight has the benefit of guaranteeing them a position in the top four, pending other round results, and will likely be a boost in the finals aspirations for both outfits.
Stuart Dew’s men are heading into the clash unchanged. The Bulldogs have made two changes. Lachie Hunter has been removed from the team for personal reasons, while Bailey Dale is out with an injured ankle. Debutant Callum Porter and Billy Gowers are the two inclusions.

Suns walk away not having lost a lot of admirers. Stuart Dew definitely got something go here. This slog type of game would of normally been a game they would get towelled up in and oppo end up with a 5-6 goal easy win. But they toughed it out, and really with the chances in the last quarter probably could of nearly won. I guess that's the next step- taking those opportunities when get them. But boy that Rankine is fun to watch.

Dud? A bit harsh. Hit-outs don't matter - Tims value is around the ground, and it was too wet for the big blokes last night...I was tempted to bring him in this week but knew he'd get smashed by Witts and the weather so went for Gawn instead.

Weightman came off second best in a collision with an umpire - commentators were making fun of him needing to hit the weight room etc

"Confirmed: Tim English is from a 2 father family - Witts and Grundy say who's your daddy? Absolutely monster-ed in the ruck contests again tonight! Anyone go cheap and bring this dud in this week instead of Gawn?" (jockreynolds website)

With 2 and a half mins left I don’t think that’s happening. Still can’t tell you who’s gonna win full stop though!
