The GWS Giants clash with the Carlton Blues in the final game of Round 9, as both sides look to bounce back from defeats last week. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, commencing from 4:40pm AEST.

The Giants suffered a convincing defeat at the hands of Hawthorn last week and have made a raft of changes due to a combination of injury and form.

Stephen Coniglio and Zac Langdon are out with niggling injuries while Matt Buntin and Dawson Simpson have been omitted.

GWS have some powerful ins, with Brett Deledio, Shane Mumford, Lachie Whitfield and Harry Perryman being added to the mix.

Meanwhile, Carlton put up a glorious fight against Collingwood last week but couldn’t quite get over the line.

They have omitted Lachie Plowman and Tom Williamson due to injury and have brought in Nic Newman and Harrison Macreadie for his first game since his debut season in 2017.

In terms of form, GWS have been a bit patchy since their big win over Geelong, dropping games to Fremantle and Hawthorn while beating the Swans and the Saints.

Carlton have just the one win from their last five but barring the loss to North they have pushed the likes of Collingwood, Hawthorn and Gold Coast right to the line, while comfortably accounting for the Bulldogs.

Carlton are bottom with only one win, but their percentage is higher than the five teams above them, showing they have brought consistent effort to generally lose by small margins.

Carlton may be the bottom team, but they have rarely looked like the bottom team this season.

However, with GWS playing at home and fighting for a top-four spot it is hard to envision a better outcome than another worthy but ultimately losing effort from Carlton.

Prediction
Carlton will likely battle well and should GWS take them lightly they could have a fight on their hands but the names GWS can bring in sums up the disparity between the two lists and you would expect their class to carry the day.

GWS by 32 points.

Difficult to see it any other way. Maybe Collingwood broke them last week?

GWS were rampant as they defeated Carlton 20.18 (138) to 7.3 (45), a team who will have some serious questions asked of them. Forget men versus boys, this was Giant’s versus boys and Carlton never looked like they had any sort of answer as they were beaten in all areas. A performance like this is a real reminder of the endless quality the Giants possess and suggests at some point it all has to click for this GWS team at the right time of year. Tim Taranto was a colossal force early, while Lachie Whitfield ended up with three goals and forty touches – mind boggling numbers. In general GWS’s midfield had the ball on a string for the majority of the game. Matt de Boer was a crucial force putting the clamps on Cripp’s to reduce him to an insignificance. Up forward Finlayson got five and is shaping up as a surprise Coleman contender. This was a win where all shone. For Carlton there are few straws to clutch at, with Nic Newman almost a lone hand and McKay kicking three goals. Marc Murphy loss was not what they would have wanted but the rot had already set in at that point, nonetheless Carlton fans will hope his trip to hospital proves precautionary. Final Scores: GWS 20.18 (138) Carlton 7.3 (45) Thankyou all for joining us for our coverage, to wrap up the weekend of football.

Brendon Bolton needs to be sacked tonight. Just an absolute disgrace. It's time to make tough calls and in 3 years of terrible coaching he hasn't delivered. Get rid of him NOW!

Pathetic effort, especially after last week. Carlton have 4-5 months to find a new coaching team, people who can get everything out of these players week in week out. A coach who will tell the players how it is, not one who is their best mate. We need some mongrel in the box.

Toby Greene with some good play, non-existent pressure inside fifty allows him to look for options before eventually going for goal and missing himself. Point GWS. GWS 20.17 (137) Carlton 6.2 (38)

Blues reasonably efficient in front of goals kicking only 2 behinds. That's a positive, yeah?

Taranto has been a dominant force today but perhaps took things a bit easy there as he is run down by McKay as he strolled through the centre square. Holding the ball.
