The Richmond Tigers will look to shore up their top eight spot against the St Kilda Saints in a Friday night MCG special. Stay up to date with the action on The Roar with live scores from 7:50pm (AEST).

Richmond’s third premiership defence in four seasons has been a fair bit tougher than the other two. While they were also 7-6 at this stage of the 2019 season, before going to win the flag, they’ve looked a class below most of the sides above them in 2021. A soft draw home means their finals spot shouldn’t really be at risk, but the fact they’ve played the other seven teams inside the top eight and won once is a worry.

Those worries are nothing, however, compared to the complete disaster unfolding at St Kilda this season. Their last outing was arguably the nadir of a horror-riddled year, as they gave up a five-goal lead against Adelaide to lose by six. The inevitability of the Crows hitting in the front in the last quarter was particularly striking, with the goodwill of last year’s surprise finals appearance well and truly evaporated.

These sides have already met in 2021 and, unsurprisingly, it was an 86-point romping in Richmond’s favour. The Tigers have won six of their last seven against the Saints by an average of 47 points.

3 Joe the Goose goals in that game. Distant history now, though.

Over rated kick. Gave away stupid 50 last week that cost us an 8 point game. Can’t defend. Has a great reputation. Good time to trade him

True but he was insurance only after Roughie's cancer battle which unfortunately didn't work out for any party but the Tigers.

Some of those defeats were awful though indicating there was more than just injury issues.

In his current form, they should extend him. He's been a revelation this season for them. Always thought he had potential to be more than a solid depth player. Unless a side offered a really good deal, I agree that they should stick with him.

Back it in, the leader is one and one. After, complete trashing the prominent Tiger voices gave and they where presented with this effort. I was going to say poetic justice. Is it irony, or a Shakespearian tragedy.

This particular game, only had a few out. Not surprised with Geelong loss, we were due. Got jumped and nothing clicked. The margin was a worry. Well, no need for lids now.

My daughter is better than half of our guys at the moment. At least she marks, kicks to a target, doesn't sell hospital handpasses. Oh, and she know how to stick a tackle.

They’ve had a few this year Yattz. Not as many as say Eagles or Freo but still a fair share, Prestia, Edwards, Cotchin, Lynch…etc. Cats may get a free Tiger pass this finals though concerned at that last loss to Brisbane
