An intriguing clash between two top-eight sides gets Round 17 underway, as the St Kilda Saints take on the West Coast Eagles at The Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:10pm (AEST).
The Saints got themselves back on the winners’ list last week with a hard-fought 14-point win over Hawthorn, crucially shoring up their spot in the eight. With two matches to play against tricky opponents, however, their finals place is far from guaranteed and they’ll hope to steal the upset tonight.
West Coast, on the other hand, made it two losses from their last three with a poor loss to the Western Bulldogs. They’ve been poor away from Perth in 2020 and the latest loss has cast serious doubt on their ability to be a contender. The Eagles have also been hit hardly by injuries and could be vulnerable tonight.
St Kilda’s recent record against West Coast is absolutely woeful, losing ten of the last 11 meetings by an average of 39 points. Their last win was an eight-point triumph in 2017 at Docklands, meaning they haven’t defeated the Eagles outside of Victoria since 2010.

In your view at least.

They just don’t have enough quality A graders. All average players will get you sixth but that’s about as high as they will get.

GWS, Carlton, Pies and the WC. Probably the last is the least convincing.

Who beat Geelong earlier this season?

Sabotage was worth it for Megalomania alone. Not a sentence you read every day, but since this is a footy/Black Sabbath forum after all, it has to be said.

It was an enjoyable game and the Nick Naitanui-Paddy Ryder matchup was worth seeing. In the end though WC has better overall talent than St. Kilda and that made the difference but the Saints gave them a good run for it. I do hope they make the finals as they have had a good season and deserve a chance after so many years not making the last 8. West Coast I am sure are keeping their fingers crossed on McGovern's hammy.

A stirring and much needed win by WCE against the odds. A win like that can fuel the belief going into finals. NN, Gaff, TK, Ryan, Shep, Barrass, Darling all lifted - not forgetting my main man, the Dashing Dirk Diggler, Liam Duggan! Now they just need to do that against the big sides, hopefully with almost their best 22 on the deck. Still a way to go. If the Eagles don't make it, I've actually had a growing respect for the Cats and their coach and hope they snatch the silverware!

6th on the ladder suggests otherwise...

I thought the Saints were very good, clean skills and fast with precise link up ability - haven't seen them play for ages, so much improved to me. They should be a force next season.

I've been an Eagles member for 25 years and I watched the whole game. The Tigers outplayed us and the margin flattered the Eagles. Richmond forced the Eagles into handballing more than they usually do. Richmond also nullified Natanui better than most other teams this year. Eagles won the free kick count 22 to 14 (so no excuses there). For the record, I tipped the Tigers to win by 17 (they won by 27) so I'm no genius but I wasn't far off the mark. My tipping overall has been average this year (84 after last night) but I don't think I'm on my own.

Think it was 5 games in 19 days? Still gruelling.

Hahahaha!!!! .... "Couldnt trouble the tigers" looks like the only part of footbal you watch is the "Wins" & "Losses", would hate to see your tipping score   . That game against Richmond coule have gone either way. Richmond managed to get their game style going for slightly longer than eagles. With Yeo & the full team there eagles would have won comfortably

Couldn't be more proud of the boys than I am today... 5 games in 14 days or whatever it was.. (people wont believe the schedule actually happened in future years) I bet they can barely get out of bed today.. damn that is tough. They only dropped the one game against the Dogs, who were fresh after a bye, really shocking scheduling by the AFL... men dropping like flies, young guys coming in and doing their bit... brilliant!!. Hope they get a few days of to recover from all the bumps and bruises.. .then once more into the breach to face the Kanga's, then we wait and see. Things were looking grim when we were 1-3.. but the boys have shown real guts, credit to all of them. Wishing them all the best for the finals ;-)

Great win by WCE. Saints have very limited quality. 2 quality players, Kelly & Ryan that the Saints couldn’t match. I thought Ryder was a good match on Nic Nat although he was beaten.

Good win by the Eagles. Unfortunately, this says more about the Saints and shows just how far behind they are. A stronger Eagles side couldn't trouble the Tigers a couple of weeks ago. Saints way off the pace. Realistically, only 5 teams in it but Geelong a stand out at this stage.

I can't see the Cats taking it easy with Richmond. I think they would be more concerned with keeping the Tigers out of the top 4 than the Eagles.

would be surprised if geelong lay down tonight just to stuff wc up, too close to finals to flirt with form & im sure they would like to keep the tiges out of top 4 if they can too

He has had a good season. Not the best last night but not really his conditions. My comment was more about an absent opponent.
