Round 18 concludes with Richmond heading west looking to inch ever closer to the top eight against the struggling West Coast. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:40pm (AEST).

With just one win to their name for the season, 2023 has been a nightmare for the Eagles – and they have made a statement at the selection table, relegating veteran Andrew Gaff to the sub role for this match.

However, their best performance since the early rounds came a fortnight ago at Optus Stadium, when they very nearly upset St Kilda – can they do the same to a Tigers outfit without ruckman and co-captain Toby Nankervis?

Happy with a 6 goal win and our 2nd Perth win of the year. Would’ve been happy to take that at the start of the season. And with 11 premiership players in the team, shows you how far behind the rest of the comp the Eagles are.

And your comment still doesn't make sense. The thread is about crowd numbers, for which Richmond has a higher base at the point of reference of 2019, not about membership numbers.

I don't know. I am not up with Eagles membership numbers.

Fewer members than the Eagles over how many years now?

Wow ! Your level of insult betrays you. A little wit, in your case, about 50%, will go a long way.

Fair enough RT - well said. As background to my comment, a while back Realist and I had a similar discussion where I noted historical data concerning West Coast attendance data during our last low period (around the Cousins car-crash era) and how it rebounded relatively quickly after two-three years - that's the basis for why I'm relatively confident in the club going forward (while obviously pretty disappointed in current performance). Obviously I wouldn't expect you to be across that discussion, but as always the devil is in the detail ;). Anyways, good chat.

My point (if there was one) was in response to your commment “If attendances are the mark of fair-weather fans, the facts aren’t on your side.” I gave those figures to show that Richmond was slightly better than WC in that regard, but I think I was pretty fair in pointing out that WC’s performance this year means that you are not comparing apples with apples. So I don’t think we really disagree at all.

Actual, you know factual, drop in Eagles’ attendance numbers? Yes. This is the source I used. Looking at home games and comparing with 2019. Changing to 2018 is not much different. https://afltables.com/afl/crowds/yearly.html#1 Richmond’s decline,(which comes from a lower base) I don't know what you mean by that.

So you say Balta was chasing prestige! Balta had 12 intercepts, 4 contested marks, 6 one percenters, 2 score involements, 2 inside 50's and 2 bounces. Where is Oscar? Allen 4 disposals 4 marks, 0 tackles and 0 contested possessions.

Actual, you know factual, drop in Eagles' attendance numbers? Or off a higher base following 2018 ? Richmond's decline,(which comes from a lower base) comes after three flags in four years so it makes sense that the fever is still high, but the hairs are being split.

No disputing the Balta hold, the Soldo hold or the McIntosh OOB? Excellent. Simpson is certainly a better judge than you. whale ? beluga, minke, dwarf beaked? the lower case does give it away. Or is that you,Punt Road or TTF or Richie Tiger? although that could be RT..

"Dunno ya honor! Whose paying for my bus fare?" ------- It could be a hiccup. Had we won we would've been 6th. But with that prize on offer you have to ask yourself was it just desire that went missing?

It was the game after his last game and the first after his resignation, and he was farewelled at the 17th minute. Its obfuscation to deny it was an important game in the club’s history. In any event I would have thought a game between two finals contenders at the MCG hosted by a club with 100k members would draw more than 30k.

Rt – I dont disagree with your first sentence – all clubs (Eagles and Richmond included) have fairweather supporters. Realist seems to be quite sensitive when the focus is on his own club using his own criteria though. I’m not sure a 5% difference in crowd drop really makes your point given, as you say, Richmond are in finals contention now whereas we couldn’t possibly be playing worse – but this is probably one of those we’ll have to agree to disagree on. At the end of the day, both clubs are pretty strong financially, have had some recent and historical success, and this d¹ck waving contest doesn’t particularly edify either.

Realist – nice attempt to change the argument to “disappointment” because you havent made your point well. It depends on what you define as disappointment and when you ask the question. Prior to the recent 3 premierships, a 37 year drought might be seen as disappointing. I’m mature enough to know a premiership every 8 years is pretty good going and happy to take the good with the bad without having to bag other clubs to make myself feel better. As we’ve previously discussed – West Coast is not really a club you could accuse of having significant amounts of fair-weather supporters given our crowds didn’t really drop significantly during our previous trough (you can look up the data again if you want). If I wanted to say something snide, I’d remark that it was disappointing there wasn’t a full house to see Dimma (3 premiership coach) off – he deserved better.
