Problem with Freo’s drafting and retention since 2018 is that they were not able not to make the hard decisions with regard to players like Banfield, Blakely, Crowden, Hughes and Bewley who were off/on and redrafted to rookie list. Obviously there has was no interest from rival clubs during this time period so why were they not delisted. Schultz was also moved to the rookie list in 2021, played 20 games for the season and talent wise was undoubtedly underestimated or not developed appropriately and has moved to Collingwood for season 2024.
During this time traded players included Neale, Hill, Langdon, Acres, Hogan, Cerra and Lobb together with the retirements of Ballaytine, Sandilands, Hill and Mundy account for plenty of experience.

Ladder points allocation of 4 for a win 2 for a draw is also archaic. There is no points reward for winning a quarter of football. There should be some reward for a team that outscores the opposition in 1, 2 or 3 quarters and eventually loses the game.

Freo along with St Kilda the only two teams in the competition to lose 4 out of their last 5 games. Freo playing finals in 2023 is a pipe dream with a percentage less than 90% and 1.5 – 2 games behind teams currently sitting 6th – 11th on the ladder.
Reality is that Fremantle has won 7 games of 17 played and only 4 home wins against interstate teams.

You misinterpreted the reply post. It was not about Collingwood, but the quality of the teams that were beaten by the Pies around a straight kick. Had the Pies reach the GF in 2022 it would have been interesting.

Collingwood were only winning by narrow margins from midway thru the season 2022.
The Pies defeated Bombers, Adelaide, Kangaroos, Gold Coast , and Hawthorn by 7 points with four of the games being less than a goal. Can also throw Port in there as well during the back end of the season.
All of the first listed five teams finished no higher than 12th on the ladder in 2022. Doubt whether the Pies can be a true guide to where teams are at coming into season 2023.

I believe Freo’s winning record is far superior when Fyfe has not been on field as captain.
The only year that Freo has a better winning percentage when Fyfe is on field as captain was his first year 2017 when they lost the only game that Fyfe was missing for one game.
For the record with Fyfe as captain 39.8%, without Fyfe 53.7%.

Fremantle just does not have the 200 game players as a backbone. Fyfe and Walters are the only players in that 200+ bracket.

The team that Freo fielded last night was still a very young and inexperienced side with average age being 24.5 years and 68 games. Elder statesmen were only Walters & O’Meara.
Got ahead of where they are at due to finishing ladder position in 2022. Have an abundance of same type of players that need to be sorted out who can play and in what role. Must in 2023 to finalise same.

The Bulldogs have a dream run from round 12 with Geelong (H), Port (H), Saints @ Marvel (A), Round 15 bye, and Freo (H) in round 16 which is reciprocal of the draw for rounds 5 & 6 with regard to Port & Freo.
Plus a round 17 home game against the Pies. Thats five (5) consecutive games @ marvel with a weeks rest built in.

A little bit harsh on the young Daicos. Averaged 6.4 contested possessions in season 2022 playing of half back and this year is averaging 9.0. Sam Docherty has never averaged 6.5 contested possessions over his whole career and similarly Daniel Rich averages around the 5 mark for past seven years.
Just bring up footy wire stats and have a look at the midfielders who in 2023 are averaging 9 or less contested possessions per game to date this year.
