Australia will be happy with how their batting has fared, without being amazing. While the top four are churning out fifties, ideally they’d like a century from someone in the top four. The middle order has shown mettle under pressure, and they would like to continue finding ways to win games with the bat.
On the bowling side, the powerplay bowling by the Aussies has been flawless this series – taking three wickets in each game during the opening 10 overs. With the extra bounce on offer at the MCG, Pat Cummins is likely to come in for Ashton Agar and Cameron Green’s ability to get extra bounce could see Marcus Stoinis make way for him.
England have some fond memories of the MCG as they celebrated there less than two weeks ago after defeating Pakistan in the T20 World Cup final. While the intensity has been a bit low, the English would prefer to fix up their top-order issues sooner than later.
England’s struggles with the bat have been evident since their home ODI series against India, and need to probably shelve their ultra-aggressive cricket for three-to-four overs and assess the conditions before asserting their dominance with the bat.
With the bat, Dawid Malan and James Vince will want to impress with a big knock to cement the No.4 spot when Joe Root comes back into the ODI side.
On the bowling side of things, Olly Stone should come in and bring some raw pace in place of Liam Dawson, and give England the four seamer-two spinners combo they usually prefer to play with.
Prediction
Australia have played the better cricket across the 175-plus overs that has been played this series; but they haven’t played the perfect game they would like to do.
England will want to end their tour of Australia with a victory over their long-time rivals, but an ICC trophy should suffice.
Australia to ultimately defeat England once again, but the English won’t make it so easy with good patches of cricket here and there.

I was listening to the end of the game in the car on the ABC and as they wrapped up it became clear I was listening to a English broadcast as two English commentators spent the after game talking about England only. Did the ABC literally not even bother to set up a broadcast for this series and just by the English one for a home series?

MATCH SUMMARY - Australia 5/355 (48 overs) beat England 142 all out (31.4 overs) by 221 runs (DLS method) England were so poor today, they fell short of Travis Heads score of 152. Their bowling was woeful on a pitch assisting the bowlers with the new ball, and Australia never let go. The post Finch era starts successfully, as Travis Head looks comfortable as Warner's opener. I know this isn't England's full strength side, but their batting in ODI cricket has been poor since their home series loss to India. Thanks all for joining. I'm off to get some sleep.
