So is your insecurity with the NRL.
Nathan Cleary and Kalyn Ponga would better than any current Oz or NZ rugby 10.

The five candidates for the Wallabies No.10 jersey - and the old heads who may sneak in to join them

or maybe 3-1.

Head and JFM to open at the 20/20 world cup.

Travis Head's brutally quick 89 helps his Hyderabad chase down 166 inside just 10 overs

Walsh is a gun and would probs kill it at rugby but why would he go?
he’s the main man at the Bronco’s and will do very well for himself over the next 10 years.
World cups, Lions tours etc don’t have the allure they used to and Oz rugby is a basket case. If he wanted to play rugby, he’d be better off going straight to Japan ala Manu.

Is Carter Gordon really an NRL prospect... and which Australian rugby legends could have made the switch too?

wet, wet and wet.

'We’re not going to see the 40-0 Raiders': Seibold's quest for consistency as amazing Manly stat revealed

Gordon would go alright imo.
He doesn’t have the talent to match the very top NRL players but he would be a solid and reliable addition to any team. Luke Brooks level i reckon.
Defence would be an issue – rugby players aren’t renowned for their tackling competency.
Fitness as well. The rugby guys aren’t super fit. The NRL is a lot faster. He would be involved a lot more and wouldn’t be standing around or walking to lineouts or scrums for 2/3 the game.

ridiculous to leave JFM out. he’s killing it in the IPL.
again the Aussie selectors are conservative.
boring. boring. boring

T20 World Cup: Marsh named captain, Smith and Fraser-McGurk miss out

Gordons role in an NRL team would utilise his talent far more than rugby would. He would be involved much more.
Rugby is the softer and slower game, so it that respect it would be a better choice health-wise and ultimately that is the most important thing.

Judiciary hands down surprise DCE verdict after controversial charge for dangerous throw

yeh, earning 4-5m+ playing NRL for the next 8 years would be a serious waste of his talent. he could be dicked around by RA instead for half the money.

crazy not to include JFM in the squad. again, we are too conservative

Australia T20 World Cup squad: Smith to be snubbed, Fraser-McGurk's IPL fireworks ignored as selectors take safe options

Without genuine domestic competition in there own countries, Rugby has found itself in a no mans land it has no idea how to get out of.

Exactly.
Super rugby is an amateur comp masquerading as professional. It is a training comp for the national sides. Player movement between teams is highly restricted. Capped Wallabies or All Blacks playing any other franchise than one from their home country doesn’t happen.
They could do worse than taking the best elements from the NRL and AFL as a base for a proper, professional competition.

yeh, Stoinis needs time to get going so 3 looks like it would be his best spot.

good ideas.
I’ve always been of the belief that RA should take elements from both the NRL and AFL to structure a professional competition. SRP is an amateur event masquerading as a pro comp. The unrestricted movement of players between teams would make the competition much better.
Can’t either RA or NZ going for it though. They are stuck in the 1980’s.

love it.

Oz Rugby is very insecure when it comes to this. Not sure why. You’d think they’d be welcoming players with more talent the the current crop.

Rooster must remodel: Angus Crichton says he'd want to 'dominate' in rugby union - this is what he'd have to change

I’ll raise you Josh Schuster

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

You can dismiss league all you want. Yeh rugby is still alive but the NRL is taking more and more market share……….and it won’t stop, particularly as THE WARRIORS are winning. The Wahs get bigger crowds than than any of the rugby teams. The NRL is a professionally run comp, whereas Super Rugby is amateur in everything but name. NZ is a tiny market with finite resources. Loads of Kiwis already ply their trade in the NRL.
You are very naive and extremely short-sighted if you think the NRL isn’t a big threat to the future of NZ rugby.

Rugby is losing the long-term battle: What World Rugby must learn from Australia before it's too late

Good article. Like you, Rugby was my favourite but it has only gotten slower and way more officious – a yellow card for a failed intercept attempt is friggin ridiculous.
Don’t expect any sympathy/empathy from non-Aussies.
They choose not to understand the situation the game faces here and couldn’t care less if rugby disappears from the Oz sporting landscape.
Once the NRL establishes a team in the South Island, it will be NZ’s turn to do battle.

Rugby is losing the long-term battle: What World Rugby must learn from Australia before it's too late

they’re still not over it……..and fair enough.
bowling underarm is infinitely more despicable and cowardly than intentionally breaking someone’s face by smashing your elbow into it while they are completely defenceless.

Finding the right kind of violence: Why rugby has never been harder to play

i’m ok with players coming back after serving time for drug offences…………. but domestic and sexual violence not so much.

Don't pop the champagne: Jennings' 300th game will be an embarrassment for the NRL

no it is not.
plenty of high-functioning drug abusers manage to hold down high-flying jobs.

Don't pop the champagne: Jennings' 300th game will be an embarrassment for the NRL

Manly loves you too.

never more a wrong phrase that has been written.
if you subscribe to this, you are not a local.

Five and a kick: Manly hates you, but should you love them? And are Ricky's Raiders fun now too?

I would imagine the goal in Australia is not to beat league but to at least compete, survive and grow.
Who knows though? RA have had NFI for the past 25 years.
I’m not saying I agree with making any changes to the game but for rugby to survive and grow in this ultra-competitive winter sports market, the game itself needs tweaking. The other alternative is for it to become aligned with the NH season and play during summer which is being mooted:

'Curse the money all you want' but RA must work out what it wants from Super Rugby - otherwise the game is doomed
