Day one of the second Ashes Test starts in the English capital, as Australia and England head to Lord’s in London for their latest epic battle. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8pm (AEST).
Following a brilliant come-from-behind victory at Edgbaston, Australia have had the luxury of a week’s break between Tests to refresh.
While Steve Smith had a quiet Test with the bat, so did Marnus Labuschagne. If the Australian No.3 and No.4 can provide more support for Usman Khawaja, dismantling Australia’s top four becomes a much harder job for England.
England’s players have been talking up their game despite losing the opening Test. They will continue to back their aggressive style of play, but they need their top three to contribute more with the bat or else Joe Root will be walking in with England two down for not many once again during this Test.
Prediction
This is the biggest Test for Australia in the Pat Cummins era. Australia have not won a series on English soil since 2001. Both teams have had enough time to refresh and regroup, but Australia have enough match-winners in their XI to get the job done in the face of Bazball.
Australia to win on the final day before tea.

I don't know. I left NZ after High School. Gerard had perfect technique and an incredible knack of scoring ducks. Bowled off-spin well. There was a younger brother. Richard Hadlee had just left and was a regular at net sessions, and occasionally Dayle Hadlee came along. A teacher for a year was a guy from Otago called Murray Webb, who was quite quick and played a few tests for NZ.

Is Gerard Logan's father or uncle?

Our innings total would've been poorer if not for him. 350 is better than 280 regardless of wickets lost. He's a slow maturer but will still be there at 38.

Lyon certainly may get more wickets out of this pitch than I thought originally but he can get spanked at lords quickly too . 2019 second innings Lyon 0 for 102 from memory and they scored quickly and got us in to bat . he did snag 3 wickets first innings there though

greet innings but as usual head gives his wicket away . I said to my mate whilst we were watching root always gets a valuable wicket here or there I hope head doesn't run down the pitch and get stumped . what does he do several overs later he runs down the pitch and misses and gets stumped . brain fade yet again but great innings . he gives his wicket away all the time a bit like mark Waugh used to

I saw the small clip here, or somewhere, and l put more blame onto Chappelli in this in than Botham, l think, was prepared to be conciliatory. It would’ve been great for them to see eye to eye instead of this sandpit argument. Gower is my favourite Englishman and his cover drives were a thing of immense beauty.

Botham is the most Aussie Pom there ever was, which is probably why he’s liked and reviled in equal measure. I have no intention of watching the show but I don’t know what either of them as thinking to agree to it. The second hand embarrassment I feel for them is toe curling enough.

In his life l don't think he's a sad old man, that's harsh, but it was a bad metric for sure. I wished Greg or Trev had said something to him. Funny that l like both Waugh and Botham, cricketers that Chappelli has had some unhinged moments with. But as a player we've never had a better General.

I think we can both be right in this instance.

Perhaps then have a look playing days. He was a very innovative captain. Clive Lloyd rated him the best. And the only three captains we've had who created a good, nay exceptional, atmosphere in the team anywhere like him was Benaud, Tubby and his grandfather. And yes he's a bit curmudgeonly now but his commentary was second to none describing the game technically uptil he was shunted. His thoughts on improving the game are the most relevant ones out there.

No, I’m not that old Rowdy. To me, he’s always been a grumpy and snarky old man with a massive chip on his shoulder.

He's definitely opinionated. He knows what he wants. That's why he was our best captain. His troops loved him.

So you didn't know him in his playing days?

I reckon Beefy would have done it for a bit of a lark and the money, and Chappelli would walk through the desert for a week to get into an argument. The footage of them "commentating" together was painful. Show a bit of professionalism. That was childish and embarrassing.
Rowdy
Roar Rookie
I believe it was stupid of them to accept this. It was a money grab by the network.
Choppy Zezers

Chappelli is retired, he made it clear he had no intention of resolving their differences and considered Beefy a coward. So why go on there at all?
Rowdy
Roar Rookie
He's young, he's got green roots, he'll survive and flourish.

I think Head did a tremendous job. Put England on the back foot. Australia’s day. Another 100 and it will be a great score given the weather conditions and the movement.
