Australia will need to bowl superbly on Day 4 to keep their victory chances alive as England close in on victory in the third Ashes Test. Join The Roar for live scores from 8pm (AEST).
England’s run chase of 251 got off to the perfect start on the evening of Day 3, with Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley seeing the hosts safely to stumps on 0/27.
Earlier, a brilliant 77 from Travis Head had ensured a defendable total after the middle and lower orders again wilted in the face of the English attack.
With England masters of the chase in recent times and Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes waiting in the wings, the Aussies seem all but out – can Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland and company turn things around?
Venue: Headingley, Leeds

Marcus Trescothick?

Yep...the same Cam Green. When Cummins is released from the captaincy, he'll get a bowl with a ball that's newer than 50 overs old. As if crowds affect the Aussies. They feed the Aussies. Yes, the series is over. England cannot win 2 more tests with those bowlers or those batsmen.

hilarious post Cummins wins the first two tests as captain with some smart moves at times . he takes six wickets first innings headingly . removes root . he's he over bowled himself but the chronic failure of the test was warner . smith and labs played poor dolly shots . neser was the swing bowler not selected . plenty to look at with the Hoff to come back for Manchester too

Have you won the ashes . Last time I check it’s still there for England to win it .. it’s only 2 to one now .. you going to have the home crowd now going crazy .. so that gives them an extra advantage.. Oh cam green the guy taken two wickets in this series lol .. Will the players carry pat through .. there are cracks now .. when will Marcus stand up ..

And still we’ll take the Ashes home from England. Poor coach, atrocious captaincy, handicapped selection….and still cruise to the title of best in the world. Pat has been exposed from the beginning but the players carry him. The bowlers are not showing much “sting” but we have better bowlers waiting for their chance. The opposition needs to worry knowing players like Richardson and Morris are still to come and…when Cummins steps away…there is also Cam Green to bowl. Sting galore.

bit of a shout to Starc. I am not a huuuuge fane. but have always thought he is a very good bowler with the ability to bowl better than great deliveries, and occasionally (but rarely) spells. he is also a great cricket citizen. I know they're married and all but have seen him constantly sitting quietly in a shaded corner of North Sydney, watching Midge and the Breakers. no fanfare. mostly just leave him be, it's a tranquil and meditative comp, the WNCL and morale . bit of a nod or a wave. (yet we know he will help with training- just prefers to let them have their own moments.) anyway, i couldn't see why we would take him to england on exposed form and age and interrupted prep etc. and he bowled some junk yesterday. but that's the fast swinging lefty style. i thought he was great, head and shoulders above the rest. well bowled, Starkers!

2-1 England probably a reasonable score at the moment on the balance of play but really 3-0 either way and 1-2 either way and even 1-1-1 all within parameters of the simulation. love someone to do the old "who won what session" analysis. the games have really swung around very quickly, which obviously suits england (they have us playing the way they want us to play.) (as in 2015, when Australia win they tend to win bigger, but england can win "moments" and parcel together wins.)

I thought Australia hated losing to England in any cricket game ..you wouldn’t want lose the 4 test match .. you lost your best spinner .. you got one opening batter .. your pace bowling attack has lost his sting .. I would start to be a bit worry ..then under pressure ..pat been exposed

I’ll retire at the scg if I’m still in the team. I think he was doing the selectors a favour

No. Should have been Marsh. One of the innings of the decade, at least. And wickets.and vibe. Prefer teams to go Aussie Rules and name bests in order: : England: Wood. Woakes, Stokes, Brook, Crawley(?) Australia: Marsh, Starc, Head, Cummins

Do you think Cummins will change his tune on Green? I doubt he'd give Neser a bowl.

I don’t think there’d be anyone who cares one way or the other about who you barrack for. Just avoid saying silly things if you’re concerned about what they think.

I suggested something similar in another post. At least it makes the tail look better!!!!

yes foakes would be a big win for england and team set . Aus could drop warner Boland and Murphy easily . bring in green or renshaw and def bring in Hoff and I'd try neser with swing and batting for Murphy . that's a much deeper team with bat and ball
Pierro

he certainly didn't help at all

I agree to a point but he didn't show it today. But he did a bit of work out there and by day 4 it's not all that easy. On the flip side, England have similar issues with Broad, Moeen and Anderson. They're putting in, but as you get a bit older it's just harder to work in the field with the intensity of the younger blokes. Strange comment though, it's about the fourth time in two weeks that someone has had a go at me for not cheering for Australia or cheering for England in the last two weeks, but never had that thrown at me in the preceding four or five years. A few others have had that too, I don't get it.

I wouldn't mind renshaw but he's not being mentioned much . green in . elevate labs he opens anyway . bringing neser in for Murphy adds batting depth and swing . Hoff better than bolo . 3 changed for me . doubt the selectors will do it
