Only rain can save Australia from an Ashes hiding as England home in on squaring the series up at 2-2. Join The Roar for live scores from 8pm (AEST).

Rain and lots of it is expected on the fourth day in Manchester, after the first three were dominated by the hosts.

Leading Australia by 162 runs and with the Aussies already four wickets down, only the elements can help the visitors secure the urn – but any break in play is likely to make batting all the more treacherous.

Woakes is a pretty moderate cricketer. Deflecting? Deflecting what?

You keep deflecting . I've pretty much called this test pretty well according to pars for the course and that Aus batting let us down first innings . you are wrong on neser he does swing the ball and is closer to woakes with bat and ball than any other Aussie player . you rattled on about england being bowled out for under 300 day 2 and it was so far off the mark it wasn't funny . I told you these last two days would wash out when people on here were not totally backing that . you were advocating warner at start of this series which I fought as well and true to form hes failed

Sorry mate. Last 3 series in Australia, the score line reads 13 test wins to nil. Last 3 series in England the score line currently sits at 6 all. The Poms don’t even have the courtesy to show up when they come out to Oz. Basically give up in the first session of day 1 of the first test. Their performances have been disgraceful.

I’m sure he’d be disappointed getting out but his teammates would love him for the ton he scored. It can be both. You over-egged your criticism

Always just enough is good enough hey. Well, I'm sure if you spoke to Marnus - being the professional he is - I bet he would be agreeing with me.

I don't know why you keep referring to what you've already said. There were multitudes of posts suggesting Green or Marsh at the top. Neser is no more a swinger of the valley than Cummins, Green, Marsh, Hazlewood or Starc. He, too, would have been instructed to bowl short and he, too, would have bowled without a supporting slip cordon. The problem is not personnel, it is leadership.

geez the grounds have different end times in England it should be a universal set of rules for play time and extension due to lost overs . 730pm seems very late to me for red ball test cricket . in Australia they start half an hour earlier with lost overs but Brits don't seem to do it

I agree with you here don. be better off labs opening or stick green up there to be a bit more assertive which are the two options I presented this test along with getting neser in for swing bowling both were predictable for this test . the oval may have less swing need to review again. head needs to stay down the order as averaging 38 now for series

it could be similar to today or less play alot of round around but some of its light patches . just looking at hourly forecast now it seems play will be difficult after tea and maybe some on and off patches of play in two sessions before but hard to know what rain will hit the ground compared to the greater area

Stop Oil Now... The Brits are great on traditional values. Dig up a pitch , again. Seriously, though, bad light, uneven pitch, "Test bowlers", cough, cough, good job, mostly done. Marsh plays with soft hands, did anyone notice?

Both hands. See which one you like best. Try that one again. He has probably saved the Test for Australia.

Has not stopped raining all day in London and we’re expecting more of the same tomorrow. We can scrape out of this. Hang tough boys. What a revelation Marsh has been

And him running when the ball was in Carey’s gloves yesterday? The ball wasn’t dead presumably. Hmmmm. What will the kiddies think?

You’re listening to Mark Butcher’s inane comments on this. He attacked Root when he came on. Took him downtown for 2 big 6’s. He didn’t change how he was playing him after he got 100 at all. He got a good ball that kicked up and he nicked it. Happens

This is ridiculous. The man made a gutsy ton and gave us a chance to save the match and keep the Ashes and you’re slagging him? Give yourself an uppercut

I think you'll get your wish. rain forecast, 90-95% chance all day from 2am. still, wish Labs was still there in case there is a gap in the weather and we have to bat for 30-50 overs.

yes. absolutely. the whole talk of the declaration on Day 1 is a little overcooked. England were 8 down with the tail in. They werent conceivably lasting much longer anyway and Stokes wanted a 30 minute crack at our openers, one of which struggles historically against Broad with the new ball. Had we been 1 or 2 for not many at the end of Day 1 it would have been hailed as a great declaration. isnt that what bazball is supposedly all about? taking chances? but we saw out the day, batted sensibly and played the test at our pace not England's. we were the better team for two and a half tests. at 7/142 chasing our 263 and 2-0 down, we were managing losing the toss every time and having the worst of conditions on every occasion. yet we were on the cusp of 3-0. Cue the short-pitched rubbish and defensive field placements that invited England back in. credit to England for fighting back and seizing the initiative, however credit to Australia for managing the series prior to that. should really have been 3-0 to us.

If it is a draw, weather would have saved us though. If there were no rain delays on days four and five you win.
