Australia will be looking to bounce back from their demoralising loss to New Zealand when the two sides meet for the second of five T20s at Dunedin’s University Oval today. Join The Roar for live scores of the match from midday.
If Australia were confident their squad of BBL stars could get the job done against the Black Caps without their Test squad players, they were dealt a rude shock on Monday. The hosts, despite getting off to a wretched start with the bat, trounced the visitors by some 53 runs.
While the Australian new-ball pairing of Jhye Richardson and Daniel Sams started the game off well, the side’s fielding, death bowling and batting were all well below par.
Their effort with the bat was particularly poor. Australia lost four wickets in the powerplay, and only a middle-order cameo from Mitchell Marsh kept the score anything close to respectable.
The form of Aaron Finch is becoming ever more concerning for the Aussies. Their captain, after a meagre run of scores in the Big Bash, was out for just one in the series opener, and needs a good innings or two to rediscover his touch.
Despite their poor outing in Game 1, Australia are unchanged, as are Kane Williamson’s Black Caps. The tourists won the toss and Finch once again elected to field first.

Ronan it MAY have gone for 4...Nothing definate at all and Aus lost by 4 so would still have lost
Who choked Ouch? Was that a claim of premature strangulation?

The fielding side aren't to blame if the ball hits the umpire. In fact, they could miss out on a catch. The dead ball suggestion is okay, but I think the rule shouldn't change.

A first ball duck just happens sometimes, and he was very good with the bad in the first game. If anything, he should bat higher because he's a strokemaker, not a slogger.

Yeah Finn Allen is a very exciting prospect. I have been a cricket fan/player/follower for a long time and can safely say that NZ has never before had the depth of available talent that exists now. It has helped that our paltry player-numbers have been bolstered by the addition of immigrants from Asia and Africa. A nation with the population of metropolitan Sydney will always be struggling uphill against the Big Boys---I read somewhere that Surry CC has a bigger budget than NZC...... It's really nice to enjoy a brief moment in the sun after decades of mediocrity.

No question, he is an incredible talent. I think I agree with you that Jamieson should sit out the next game of this series. Between Conway and Jamieson New Zealand have 2 really exciting new faces on the international scene. I hear Allen is another good prospect but he has to wait his turn with Guptill still around-and today proving his worth.

Odd isn't it as Sodhi was so good in the first game of the series. Obviously Australia studied him well as i did not think the wicket was that much different here from Christchurch and the 1st game of the series.

Follow his career. You'll see many reasons so far.

Do you have your answer yet?

Yeah...I thought he looked petulant at times...haven't seen any sign of that before. To be fair to him....his rise has been meteoric......must be hard keeping those size 17s on terra firma.

He came in at 6 today I think?

Cheers mate  t20 not my bag but this game was easily the most enjoyable I have watched. Next two games are evening games so the Aussie batsmen better get used to the ball swinging. That 18th over was (imo) the best Boult has bowled this summer in NZ. I reckon Jamieson should be 'rested' for the remainder of the series or pending improved form in the nets. Pity this isn't a 5 match Test series eh?

Bit harsh on Agar. He batted really well last game and was our most economical bowler today.

Fair enough. I think Agar at 7 is just too high for him He is just not good enough at 7 imo.

Sams seems to struggle when he bowls the 19 or 20th over. So why he bowls those. I think Finch should use his overs by 16 overs. Someone like Jhye seems a better bowler to bowl that last over. Sams is a really good player. He will give Australia that extra edge with the bat. You combine him with any two of Starc, Pat, Hoff,Jhye, Dorff and bowl his overs at the right time instead of giving him the last over or penultimate over when he struggles, Australia will do well.

Congrats moaman. Good win in a great game of cricket. New Zealand cricket is having such a fine moment now. Three more games to go and if they are anything like this one this will be a bonzer series.
