Alex Carey makes his debut as captain of Australia as they begin their ODI series with the West Indies. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:30am (AEST).

The T20 series was an utter disaster for Australia. They never looked like threatening the hosts in a dispiriting 4-1 series loss.

However, today is a new opportunity. The Aussies will look to flex their muscle in a format they’re traditionally a lot stronger in and – hopefully – finish off the tour with some strong performances in the 50-over format.

I set my alarm for a 2.15am wake up. I’m currently reviewing my decision making processes.

"I think Windies missed a trick by not having Walsh at 8." I think they missed a trick being 6 for 27 Arnab

Maybe it’s the lighting, but Starc looks like he’s at deaths door in that MOM presentation

Yeah watched the same and agree. Burl went off in the back half of his innings.

I've been impressed with the cricket Zimbabwe have played. Watched yesterday's game and boy Raza and Burl are two solid middle order bats

I think Windies missed a trick by not having Walsh at 8. Joseph plays only one way and hates not scoring. Walsh is willing to dig in and fight for the team.

As the table stands, If I were West Indies, I wouldn’t be going into the WC qualifying tournament thinking it was a lay down to take one of the top two spots, when South Africa and Sri Lanka are in there. — I’m even impressed with some of the cricket Zimbabwe are playing at the moment. — With the WC qualifying tournament 2 years away, who knows what form any of those teams may be in by then. And bearing in mind Zim nearly knocked the West Indies over in the last WC qualifying tournament.

Totally forgot about this. Reckon Starc should end up concentrating on short forms of the game sooner rather than later.

This series matters a lot for Windies. Alongside Super League points, this the first time they playing a top ranked odi team since december 2019. And boy did they nearly pull off a series win vs India.

Can you clarify? The Windies. are currently sitting 9th and only 8 teams automatically qualify for the WC. I would have thought this series mattered a lot for the Windies

Some good bowling, some poor shots and hetmyer got out to a one hander from Hazlewood.

The quicks are world class, when they want to be. I assume it is great bowling so far not terrible batting.

This counts towards World Cup Qualification? With India C playing Sri Lanka, and a likely whitewash, Does this series actually matter?

Today proves that what Shai Hope is to Windies ODI side is what Sachin was to India in the 90s. No matter what Hope would've survived this powerplay and ensured windies had a chance. Now they playing for net run rate damage control with the super league
