Massive drama as Black Cap takes too long to call for the review that would have saved him

By The Roar / Editor

Will Young was incorrectly given out LBW late on Day 4 against India… but he dallied too long in calling for the DRS!

Where I do agree that all LBWs should be automatically reviewed as it stands, they aren't. Plenty of time for the players to review.

How are they the best? They are joint best with India. India are quite better than them in neutral conditions. The WTC Final was as close to home conditions as possible for the Kiwis. India have never won in NZ but have now won 2 succesive series in Australia and always brat the Aussies and Poms at home. NZ have never won in India and have lost heavily to Australia both home and away. When was the last time the Kiwis even drew against Australia at home? NZ did win a short series in England befire the WTC Final. India too were leading in England in a much longer series after the WTC Final before it was left in suspended animation. No way are the Kiwis a better test team than India presently.

But not by much. Gee those last two batted well. Still the best Test team in world cricket for mine.

A bit rich coming from the Indians, they have complained about not being able to use the DRS when the replay was on the big screen in a T20 game against the Aussies. Anyway, all LBW's should be automatically reviewed due to the unknown nature of what would have happened. All other dismissals there is something to indicate it was out and not a guess.

Haven’t seen or heard from him in ages. Probably brushing his hair.

100% agree. It is not the players job to work out if he is out or not. Umps need to review the close ones at a bare minimum.

I hate a system that relies on a player guessing whether they're out or not. Every lbw in Test cricket should be automatically reviewed as the player is leaving the ground, just as tries are awarded but reviewed in the NRL. If the batsman's out, the new batsman is quickly onto the ground, If they're not out, they hurry back and get on with the game. In a low scoring affair like this, the fact that Young guessed wrong should not have to cost his team, but it likely will.
