Round 18 of the NRL premiership continues tonight when the Brisbane Broncos take on the Dolphins at the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:35pm (AEST).

Having suffered their first derby loss of 2023, the Broncos will be desperate not to repeat their disappointing performance from last week. However, they will have to do so without the services of Reece Walsh (suspension) and Thomas Flegler (injury). Tristan Sailor has replaced Walsh at fullback while Keenan Palasia starts at prop in Flegler’s absence.

The Dolphins have tasted success just once in their past five games as injuries and suspensions start to hit the NRL’s new franchise in their debut season.

Coach Wayne Bennett has forced a change in his backline to steady the flow of points being conceded as Kodi Nikorima starts at fullback while the unofficial marquee man Hamish Tabuai-Fidow shifts to the centres. In a huge boost for the Dolphins, Jeremy Marshall-King returns from injury and will start at hooker.

Prediction

With Sean O’Sullivan getting minutes last week and Marshall-King back in the Dolphins lineup, the Dolphins have arguably their strongest lineup available for the first time in 2023.

But the Broncos have chief operator Adam Reynolds who will be out to prove a point and steer his side to victory. Wayne Bennett knows how to get the best out of his teams in derbies, so expect the Dolphins to have their best performance of their season and conjure up an upset. Dolphins by 1 in golden point.

Probably a better option then moving kodi to centre

I doubt that the NRL will be happy with that result.

Today I've had the pleasure to see two superb tries scored, and no, neither were in the NQ v Wests game. The one Dave Fifita set up for his winger v Canberra and Cobbo's solo effort just now. Excellent skill from both players.

I don't think I've seen anyone do it easier than Cobbo does

Redcliffe a tad unlucky, but in the end the Broncs had enough strike out wide to win that. They'll need to be much better than that, though. Players out doesn;t help, but it's not enough to explain some of their messiness. Home, for cycling and cricket. :stoked:

FT BRI 24 DOL 16 The big brother gets it over the little brother once again in the Brisbane derby. The Dolphins took the lead with a strong start to the second half, but the genius youngster that is Selwyn Cobbo got the job done and helped Broncos bring up a tough win. The Dolphins shouldn’t be disheartened as they produced a better performance, but it’s the Broncos who get the two points at The Gabba.

Nah, a lot of off the ball focus play that’s not right. Some howlers against the Dolphins as well, but I’m getting the message that the NRL want a Dolphins win. Which arguably is good for the Comp I guess.

Moving hammer to centre was... what's the opposite of a masterstroke?

80’ Dolphins win the short kickoff. They shift right before Isaako knocks on. Broncos run through the motions before Smoothy kicks it dead. Broncos win!

At least the third game this round where decisions have been perplexing and spoiled things.

Well played Broncs. I thought you were the better team . Plus they had Cobbo. Phins were good in H2 but they lacked a half back to really take the game by the neck.
