Round 18 of the NRL premiership continues tonight when the Brisbane Broncos take on the Dolphins at the Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:35pm (AEST).

Having suffered their first derby loss of 2023, the Broncos will be desperate not to repeat their disappointing performance from last week. However, they will have to do so without the services of Reece Walsh (suspension) and Thomas Flegler (injury). Tristan Sailor has replaced Walsh at fullback while Keenan Palasia starts at prop in Flegler’s absence.

The Dolphins have tasted success just once in their past five games as injuries and suspensions start to hit the NRL’s new franchise in their debut season.

Coach Wayne Bennett has forced a change in his backline to steady the flow of points being conceded as Kodi Nikorima starts at fullback while the unofficial marquee man Hamish Tabuai-Fidow shifts to the centres. In a huge boost for the Dolphins, Jeremy Marshall-King returns from injury and will start at hooker.

Prediction

With Sean O’Sullivan getting minutes last week and Marshall-King back in the Dolphins lineup, the Dolphins have arguably their strongest lineup available for the first time in 2023.

But the Broncos have chief operator Adam Reynolds who will be out to prove a point and steer his side to victory. Wayne Bennett knows how to get the best out of his teams in derbies, so expect the Dolphins to have their best performance of their season and conjure up an upset. Dolphins by 1 in golden point.
