It’s a Queensland derby this evening as the Brisbane Broncos go head-to-head with their state rivals the Gold Coast Titans. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:30pm (AEST).

Queensland can usually bank on having at least one side firmly in the finals mix, but it’s a grim picture this year, particularly for these two sides. The Broncos started the season well but, one decent performance against Manly a couple of weeks ago notwithstanding, have been meek since the restart, losing four straight.

The Titans at least aren’t failing to live up to expectations, instead merely meeting the pre-season predictions of wooden spoon shoo-ins. While they do have a solitary win to their names – a commendable, gutsy effort against the Tigers three rounds ago – they just don’t have the cattle to challenge the NRL’s top teams.

Gold Coast may at least finally have Tyrone Roberts back in their side today, even though he was named in the extended reserves earlier in the week, while Jarrod Wallace is also making his return via the bench.

Brisbane coach Anthony Siebold has made a number of changes, including moving Tesi Niu into the no.1 jersey and Jamayne Isaako to the bench. Cory Paix is out injured, heaping pressure on the side’s already-thin hooker stocks and potentially giving young half Tom Dearden a chance for a bench role. If that happens, Isaako is set to drop out of the matchday squad entirely.

The problem at the Broncos starts and ends with the board and CEO. Sack Henjack, sack Griffin, sack Bennett, now Siebold is next. Coaching is not the problem. The culture is a shot duck and the board and CEO need to fall on their sword.

I wasn't trying to disrespect the man. I don't follow union. I didn't know if he had a preseason's worth of conditioning or if his position for union required different conditioning that would undercut his effectiveness in league. But age would be an equally good explanation. And he doesn't have the benefit of having lockyer put him into gaps anymore.

hmmm, just last week I suggested Seibold should just record his post match interview weeks ago and keep replaying it - same crap every time. Just like last week solution is this simple: Brisbane needs a coach. ...and yes, I am saying Seibold isn't a coach, he's not - it's so bl... obvious already obvious since last year when occasionally players would go off plan to regain some respect - take a look: 2019 their 'messiest' games were their best - results came - those games it was obvious they threw out Siebold's crap and just winged it ...looks like this year he put his foot down this year and forced them to play his bull.... or walk - and where has that got them?

I'm actually sick of the weekly training photos where they're all running around with a smile on their face. Way to read the room guys.

Agree with a lot of what you have said there but, once you mention Te’o I start to feel disappointed. The bloke is old. He was on a final and desperate last season run with the Japanese Sunwolves (who incidentally couldn’t attract a quality player because they have been punted from the Super rugby comp) and then lucked out with a desperate Bronx’s org offer. He isn’t the future. Geez, he isn’t even the past really. The last game of league he played was the last South’s GF win. 2014? 6 years. Seriously. Management, please take serious account of yourselves.

Yep, agreed. I want my team to tell superstars 12 months early they are on their way out and will be dropped, not sign 33 year old blokes for 12 months hoping they will fill a hole in the roster. Where is the planning? Ben Te’o, although a fabulous servant of both rugby codes, is a waste of space in a bronc’s jumper. Whoever considered him as a worthy addition at this time should be held responsible for the current results. This is a club that told Wally Lewis that his time was up. What has happened to their standards?

After watching a snippet of the Couch's after game interview, it is clear the Broncos will have a very serious issue. The Coach has no confidence at all and really if that happens then there is no coming back from this. It is hideious to watch the Brisbane players laughing with Titans players at full time. But this is a separate issue to the Coach losing confidence in himself. The board responsible for choosing Seilbold really need to be held to account for this. This will not end pretty.

So, if the reason that the easy beat Titans are suddenly performing is the fact that they have a new and capable coach does that mean the suddenly poor performing Broncos is a result of a ???????????? coach ? Seibold is useless!

Well, we clearly have no idea how to play as a team anymore. We have a lot of kids but there are plenty of older heads there, but none of them are play well or have it anymore. The coach is not up to it. The Broncs need to let him go, and we need a clean out in who/how the club is run.

To top off the Broncos performance, it seems to be the same message post-game. How many times can you flog the same, 'these kids are young' excuse before it wears off?

G Len n . U are spot on with everything U say. It’s so frustrating and sad to see this once great club perform how they do. But it’s been coming over last couple years. When u can sit and watch your team play and know that there would be barely one or two players that would start in most other teams run in sides u know things are not good. Some serious changes needed

Refereeing was amateurish. The titan sent off in the first half was laughable. The send off for dissent was just the ref injecting himself into the match to make a point. Milford tried to be involved. The teenaged fullback was a mistake. In terms of the backs, oates tries to put the team on the front foot and Boyd tried to up the ante in defense. The other backs are probably not hardened enough to get the team on the front foot. It does have to be said that broncos are very injured and Lodge and Teo probably aren't fully fit. Assuming the line speed for the titans wasn't facilitated by the refereeing, it's a good sign for them under the new coach. However, any game where Hipgrave isn't sent off feels incomplete.

That won’t happen, though Bellamy could do it.

You can't change the ref, the Titans played to the ref all night, never letting the Broncos get in any rhythm, the Broncos didn't. I feel for Oates, he has had a few concussions before and you never know what he has been told about his career ending with another one or two.

Good comment Geoff. The bloke is a genuine coach and has the Titans competing. As a league supporter, it’s great to see.

I shan’t be watching the replay. The Bronco’s have issues from the front office through to the playing group. 18 year old kid playing fullback, a retiree playing centre and a couple of over the hill recruits added after COVID 19 break. No obvious leader in the team, no hard man that makes the opposition worry, little or no strike power across the paddock. I am sick of hearing about lots of potential and I am sick of reading about unproven 20 year olds and their $5million offers. These kids believe their own press and their managers BS. Enough is enough. Give me a team I can be proud of through their effort. Win, lose or draw, I want my team to come of the paddock spent. Not laughing with the other team, not waving and smiling with each other after a poor loss. Show some ticker, show some pride, give us a reason to stick with you.

Can imagine all the talk is about how bad the Broncos are going but how good were the Titans tonight? Fantastic energy in defence. Never gave the Broncos a look in. Holbrook can coach and good to see Taylor looking more committed. Don't know where the Broncos go from here. Milford was trying tonight but he has nothing. Croft was far more threatening.

It was but Oates should have kept his mouth shut because they had the work experience referee in for the match!
