The Canberra Raiders will be keen to turn around their horror recent form at home against premiership contenders the South Sydney Rabbitohs in a vital Thursday night clash. Stay up to date with all the action from GIO Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 7:50pm (AEST).

The Raiders have now lost three games in a row to leave coach Ricky Stuart scrambling for answers. Second-half capitulations have been the order of the day, with their 26-24 loss to the Cowboys last week – despite leading 24-6 just before halftime – particularly disastrous.

Already missing captain Jarrod Croker with a shoulder injury, the Raiders have swung another surprise, with Josh Papalii to be rested. Stuart has said the decision was made to “bring the old Papa back”, as the front-rower deals with a form slump.

The Rabbitohs’ 40-30 comeback win over the Titans last week saw the return of the ageless Benji Marshall to his game-breaking best. The 36-year old is the toast of the NRL following his two-try second-half masterclass, setting up a mouth-watering duel with the Raiders’ star number six Jack Wighton.

The Raiders have won seven of their last ten games against the Rabbitohs, including an 18-12 win in their most recent encounter in Round 11 last year. They’ll hope history is on their side once again for a season-reviving victory.

Your the one throwing around labels and getting triggered. But your right, clearly the injury was a result of the new rules, just like the new rules will cause so many more injuries. You are totally right and I am so sorry I didn't agree with you straight away. I mean I just didn't realise your ego is so fragile. If you want to claim injuries are up, are due to the new rules and are going to stay that way, prove it. I will listen is you do. Other wise go throw your tanties elsewhere.

Could the tactic still have worked with a lead at half-time?

Yes Phil and I'm not having a go, as I've see all and what Simms kicked but, Reno is not only a great goal kicker but he's a tactical kicker too which is where his skills excell and are superior.

3 tries (18 points) in 14 mins straight after the break appears to be an extremely dominant tactic - Dane Gagai 44′, Alex Johnston 54′ and Jaydn Su’A 59 - some pretty good domination there me thinks. Sealed the game. Game over.

Crow - at some point it's best no to bother responding to such amateur comments as those be our guest "Harry" - he could be Rick Stuart as far as I'm concerned..

The 6 again can be an advantage or a disadvantage? Some 6 agains are cynical professional fouls and then some penalties are obscure accidents. What a Rugby League fans thoughts on soccer players fall to the ground drag their foot and falling over defenders? Take Wighton’s disallowed try when Marshall milks a penalty? Kikau was run into and was obstructed against the Storm far worse yet the Bunker let it go? Why because Kikau played his part in the contact looking for an obstruction. Jake didn’t run behind he went to the side and Marshall did his best effort to make contact with a player standing still Jake could neither pass to or go behind? Why can players break the obstruction rule and just stop without a penalty? Anyway it was 6 points taken away and a 30m advance down the field for a milked questionable obstruction. I want my team to run straight at decoys and the leave an opponent a free passage to the line at every opportunity. Let’s see how the Kikau and Marshall interpretation come into play. South hold down and it an extra tackle or 2 to stop an opponents momentum. Then Every penalty is a 30 m advance down the field. I don’t know if the league has got this 6 again thing right but more than 50 points scored is entertaining I have been lead to believe. Well played South. To many unfit Raiders.

He wasn’t equating the two. At least not the way I read it. I think his point was that lots of teams have injuries ie: all teams have to be able to deal with it. The root cause of the injury was irrelevant.

Benji should play soccer. Faking obstruction is no different from taking a dive.

This injury was part of the warm up. To equate the two is purposely disingenuous.

M - “Most teams have injuries thanks to the new rules.” R - “Yes those new rules caused his injury in the warm up.” Rellum - you know that’s not what Mushi was saying eh? Harry made a point that the mistakes were understandable due to an injury replacement. Mushi pointed out most teams have injuries. He never said this particular injury was due to the same cause. You seem to have tried to pick a fight here or be snarky for no reason. The point was, as there are a lot of injuries, teams need to have the tactical and strategic depth to be able to absorb them.

It's not just the positional changes though. Wighton has responsibility on that play. He's their elite player, he needs to organise that edge and make the right play. Also is the coaching that poor that only the regular edge back rowers know to clear the line? It's like a double movement, it's tempting but with video you're never getting away with it. The injuries might be the root cause of Jack pushing and players just doing confusing stuff because they're overwhelmed. But they need to address those symptoms as injuries and suspension are going to be something to be accounted for by many teams this year.

Really so you didn't pile into something labelling people as narcissistic (at the same time as assuming everyone thought like you because well you are a narcissist). You also weren't the terse responder to a question on the Broncos? You should alert the roar that your account has been hacked.

For more context. Both obstructions were on and edge attack featuring wighton. First even Anthony Milford can organise an edge attacking raid. Wighton, one of the best ball running halves, doesn't need a half back to organise an edge for him. Second the two edge runners shouldn't need a second half shouting at them to clear the line. Third it's Wighton's responsibility to surrender as soon as he sees it unless it's the fifth. That Wighton executed both of those plays is telling of his frustration and confidence in that edge.

That's the Raiders team I love, they didn't win but they gave it their all & really had a red hot go for the whole 80 minutes. I thought Ben Cummins was Souths best, he was a standout. Souths continually slowed the ruck & had about 7, 6 again calls. The very next tackle South made was twice as slow as the one the 6 again was called for. Brilliant tactic. 8-1 penalty count, we only got that one penalty because a player was sent to the bin. I don't know why the Raiders player wasn't penalised for making the South player hold him down. Cummins is hard to take. Loved the effort by the Raiders, in Ricky we trust. (just)

The biggest hurdle for Souths regardless of how they go through the season, is something called the Prelim, the game I like to call ‘the audition’. If they make this year’s, it will be their 4th straight audition for the big dance. Question is, will their 4th straight get easier through practice, self-belief, and determination, or harder still, unable to fully erase the scars of the previous casting calls ?

Was trailing at half-time a dominant tactic?

Not really unlucky. They need more than luck to win a game.

Wait till Mitchell comes back. He will sort them out from the back and kill it in attack
