The Canterbury Bulldogs host the Sydney Roosters in Saturday evening NRL. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5:30pm AEST.

All the talk mid-week has been the increased influence of Phil Gould at Belmore; taking a training session off the hands of coach Trent Barrett in an attempt to extract something more from a team now on a six-game losing streak.

Whilst potentially a prudent and universally decided upon move, there is no doubt that Barrett is under the pump, after Canterbury slumped into yet another second-half hole at Suncorp Stadium last Friday night.

The Roosters will also be in something of a feisty mood, off the back of a disappointing ANZAC Day loss to the Dragons at the SCG.

It sets up an interesting encounter, with the Tricolours certain to enter the match as firm favourites, and the Bulldogs looking to reproduce the quality first half they managed against the Broncos.

Coach Trent Robinson is certain to be expecting a bounce back from the Roosters; with other teams now applying pressure to the lower end of the top eight.

Team news sees Brent Naden, Josh Averillo and Ava Seumanufagai return for the Bulldogs, offset by the loss of inspirational captain Josh Jackson due to health and safety protocols.

The Roosters have a few key inclusions as well, with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Victor Radley straight back into the starting team.

Robinson will be hoping those changes bring an energy and enthusiasm that was sometimes missing against the Dragons in Round 7.

Prediction

The Roosters rarely lose two in a row and are unlikely to do so here. The loss of Jackson is huge for Canterbury and with the quality in the Chooks’ spine certain to test the Dogs’ fringe defence, it is difficult seeing them do anything but rack up a decent score. That leaves it to the blue and whites to find some points, and they still look a long way from being able to do so on a consistent basis.

Roosters by 22.

Well unfortunately I think the Chooks headache has just begun,if they continue to play as they have been theres going to be more heartache for we Chooks fans....The first thing they need to do is get a goal kicker (Sammie's hot & cold, when he's good he's great!!Creighton missed tonight too)there have been a few games we would of won if we'd got the goal..In the next few weeks we've got the Titans,Eels,Panthers,Sharks & Storm so I'd say if they don't get ontop of this slump they are going to get walked over...Come on Chookies get your s#@t together please!!!!! :unhappy:

Mate there's too much quality there to not be there late September, they usually come good late but have been surprisingly poor- they would've seen Dragons and Bulldogs on the calendar and banked on 4 points and a healthy differential boost. Keary seems to thrive when he's the main man, reckon it's worth trying Hutchinson at 6 and putting Walker on bench?

I was at a wedding once during a GF. Bad planning, more people were draped around the little TV in the kitchen than in the reception hall.

Well done Bulldogs. Weird how Roosters only look half as good as when they had half their team out last year.

Coming into this round 16th just beat 6th. I'd celebrate even an ordinary win under those circumstances. Especially with only ONE win before this round.

Well Bulldogs, fully deserved win and way too good for us. Roosters... we are a rabble, hard to see how we get out of it without something changing at the club

Congrats Doggies team and supporters. Burton's kicking game was great and the team's general defense and cover defense were excellent. Roosters threw a lot at the Dogs (especially in the 2nd half) and they constantly repelled them. Well done

Excellent result for the Bulldogs. Enjoy. The rating of many teams is not actually accurate IMO.
