Round 5 of the NRL season gets underway tonight when the Sydney Roosters and Canterbury Bulldogs square off at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6pm (AEDT).

After achieving their first win in Round 3, the Bulldogs came crashing back to earth last week against a desperate Rabbitohs outfit. They will need to go up a gear this week to challenge the Roosters.

Josh Addo-Carr is out for the Bulldogs due to concussion protocols, so Blake Wilson regains a wing spot. Second-rower Jacob Preston (jaw) will be unavailable until mid May.

Nat Butcher was charged with a careless high tackle from Thursday night’s loss to Penrith but is free to pay for the Roosters after copping a fine of $1000. Fellow forward Lindsay Collins makes an early comeback from a hamstring strain.

Prediction

The effort is there from the Bulldogs, it’s more the execution that is still lacking. Roosters by 14

He played there a few times for Penrith. I don’t remember seeing anything special when he was playing fullback there .

Our ill discipline with and without the ball kills us. That more than anything else says to me we are not top 8 material. Only thing I can take as a positive, we haven't got flogged yet

At the Panthers? Crichton was always behind Edwards. At the Dogs? Well, after the first half effort of Blake 'Mighty Mouse' Taaffe (nee 'Galago') it looks less of an option than I have argued previously. Still, I'd like a larger sample than just one game to base a decision on.

Back in the day though Tony they didn't take the flags off of those nitwits and hand them whistles instead. No wonder the game is in trouble when half the referees are former nitwits touches.

It's too early tell anything long-term at this stage. What would happen to the Panthers if they lost Cleary and Edwards for most of the season? Would they still be a top 4 side? Look at the Broncos without Reynolds and Walsh. Anything can happen. Even Benji has the Tigers playing good football.

Hahaha… and I only learned it after you explained it to me four days ago… To be fair we’re not paid hundreds of thousands a year to know the rules…

The NRL had a definition a year or so ago, but after relentless pressure from media buffoons and social media pests, they threw it out the window and now any time you land on an opponents legs, it’s a hip drop

The Roosters demolition of Souths was never a true indication of their standing in the NRL this season.
