The Cronulla Sharks can put one hand on a finals berth when they take on an improving Brisbane Broncos outfit at Suncorp Stadium. Tune in to some Saturday night NRL action with live scores on The Roar from 5:30pm (AEST).
No one would have cheered Mitchell Pearce’s field goal to secure the Knights a win over the Titans more than the Sharks. It ensures Cronulla head into the final fortnight with destiny in their own hands… though a final-round clash with the ladder-leading Storm looms ominously on the horizon.
The Sharks and caretaker Josh Hannay have done a mighty job to fight past a disastrous start to the season to be within touching distance of the finals. They will, however, be keen to improve their points-for standing to ensure they remain clear of the Titans in the event of any final-round drama.
The Broncos, however, are no easy kill. Kevvie Walters and his charges have made some positives steps towards a brighter future in recent rounds, culminating in a thrilling two-point win over the Warriors last week to all but end their finals hopes. Looking to farewell captain Alex Glenn with as many wins as possible in front of their home fans, the one-time powerhouse might just have another finals-wrecking run in store this evening.
Second-rower Jordan Riki has been named but is no guarantee of starting as he battles an ankle injury sustained at training, with TC Robati on standby. The news is better for Xavier Coates after an elbow injury late in their win over the Warriors.
The big news at the Sharks is the season-ending broken jaw to in-form winger Ronaldo Mulitalo. Replacing him won’t be easy, with Mawene Hiroti rushed back into the starting 13 despite a hand injury. Aiden Tolman will return from his suspension through the bench.

I actually don’t know what the answer is but as I said originally football can be a cruel game sometimes.

Yeah I get that but no one saw it for 10 mins, so isn’t it actually fair that it was picked up in the end.

Roar Guru
Yes but if you belt someone and the red sees it, it’s 10 in the bin and potentially the game. If the bunker sees it, it’s on report and not even a penalty.

Well, our players put themselves in the position to give the refs the chance to ping us and so many bad errors. It wasn't the ref that cost us that game

All the fans want is for the NRL to apply the same rules to both teams in the contest. Broncos played a man down for a quarter of the game yet the Sharks don't? Does my head in to be frank

Ramien. He'd be a a Sydney player wouldn't he? One sided reffing again. Panthers should win the GF with assistance.

Had enough of the whole Covid caper. Taking all my precious roar time away.

Don't worry about buying the Storm coach. Just get their "sports science" man. He'll show you how to win.

I feel like teams are catching up to the new rules. Even though there’s some issues I don’t like around them I’m glad the NRL have at least left them alone somewhat to force teams to get used to them.

Cobbo and Coates could have been a great combo, ah well.

That was the difference in the score at the end. One side loses a man for 10 one doesn't. It's a farce.

He did yes

Not only that. End of the games they tuck the whistle away so they don’t have to start binning blokes for constantly holding down. Talakai almost had to mug someone to get called for a ruck infringement.

He won't kick the ball dead 10 times a match gifting the opposition 7 tackle sets. You see it with Gamble prepared to take a tackle instead of passing to a man under pressure, Milford wants to score on every play.

The kick throughs worked pretty well I thought. Ban the windmill arms tackling “technique” Flegler keeps throwing out.

He'll add experience and calmness and should have an impact

Tracey not the biggest fella. Great job holding on though looking at Cobbo, in a couple years that might not be enough. He’s a scary prospect. On another note, Herbie and Ramien the match up I never knew I needed. Went at each other all night long.
Luke S

Did Ramien get away with a forceful hit to Farnsworth's head twice in that game? The crackdown rules apply to the Broncos but not their opposition.

+/- could prove crucial after next week. Neither the Raiders nor the Sharks will be favourites, but you’d have to think the Raiders have a better chance of springing an upset. If they both lose, the Sharks just have to do enough not to get belted, and the first week finals exit is theirs.
