David Fifita is back for the Gold Coast Titans as they travel to Coffs Harbour to battle the Cronulla Sharks. Follow the action from the first game of Sunday afternoon with live scores on The Roar from 2pm (AEST).
Victory here would guarantee at least seventh spot on the ladder come week’s end for the Titans, who are keeping on track for a drought-breaking finals appearance. Last week’s 30-20 win over the Bulldogs was far from an inspiring performance, but was crucial given they’d lost four of their last five matches.
The Sharks finally returned to the winners’ list after a six-game losing streak with a thrilling win over the Dragons. That 13-12 triumph, won in golden point by a Chad Townsend field goal, was interim coach Josh Hannay’s first win at the helm, but given the Dragons’ huge list of outs, was hardly a sign that they can start to make something out of what has been a disappointing season.
Fifita is a massive win, the match-winning Titan returning from suspension at last and slotting straight into his customary number 12; while Shaun Johnson’s return for the Sharks has seen Townsend brutally axed.
Prediction
This is one of a few games this weekend that could genuinely go either way, and could end up with any number of points scored. Their match earlier in the season came down to the final minutes and I would expect the same here tonight. This is an opportunity to notch a win going into Origin, and springboard into the second half of the season.
The Warriors have been the tougher side this year, and with Reece Walsh now starting at the back, I think they have the edge going into this one.

Similar to Broncs- a lot of young talent ,leaderless.Maybe it’s a Qld thing. At least the Cows are doing something about it with a mix of young and old.

Rene Chad should be the backup half for the rest of the season. If he does get back in,then he needs a rev up, not just going thru the motions like he did against the Drags

Dragons could do with some of that...

There's a lot worse forwards than Tolman running around

Lot of Corporals in the Titans, but no Generals.

Chad will always be the sharks first premiership winning halfback and the fans will forever be thankful for the passion he has always shown for the club... but I think his played his last game in the black, white and blue. SJ-Moylan combo is lethal...it’s only taken three years to get them both on the field together as a halves pairing but they were fantastic today. Sharks are on the up, helps having players fit and not suspended if you want to compete in every game - just need to keep everyone on the field.

Maybe they can offer a contract to A Tolman - show their forwards how to tackle

Good win Sharks. Nice to see some fluency across the park. Aided by slack D by the Titans with no real excuses.

Titans desperately need some older, experienced heads They’ve got plenty of guns but AJ is 22, Fifita, Tino and Moe are 21. Fogarty is older but inexperienced Guys like Rein and Proctor aren’t showing a lot of leadership from what I can see…

Unnecessary from Ramien. Hard for players to get used to but you can’t come running in to put a huge hit with swinging arm on someone who is falling…

TB he needs to back this up for a couple of weeks then Shark(Fitz) will resign

Given we missed out on Reynolds I'd be pretty keen to sew him up for another 1-2 years.

They are defensively average. And when their attack fails to click, it just compounds the fact they have no D

SJ still unsigned for next year…?

Yeah I’m not a fan of the play in any case. They used to call it “gamesmanship” when dummy halves threw it into players lying in the ruck to get a penalty. The NRL correctly rubbed that out. Eventually.

Big second effort there from Kelly…

Well Titans, you can kiss the 8 goodbye, don't 'have what it takes'.
