Round 7 of the NRL continues this evening with the Cronulla Sharks hosting the Sydney Roosters at PointsBet Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6:00pm (AEST).
This is the 100th meeting of the Sharks and Roosters in the NSWRL and NRL, including finals, since Cronulla joined the big time in 1967.
For the record, the Roosters hold a comfortable lead in the head-to-head, with 63 wins to Cronulla’s 34, and with the teams having shared the points twice.
The first meeting between Cronulla and Easts, as the Roosters used to be known, was in fact the Sharks’ very first game in the top-flight, and they won it too, beating Easts 11-5 thanks to a try by a player named Hynes (dummy-half John Hynes in that case).
What does any of this have to do with tonight’s game? Not much, but it’s an interesting piece of historical trivia and, in truth, I’ve little idea of what might happen in this game.
Both teams are coming off defeats, with the Roosters succumbing meekly away to Melbourne and the Sharks letting a sizeable lead slip at home to the Warriors. Both teams are down on some key forwards, both have shown both flashes of quality and signs of weakness in 2022.
There are perhaps three important differences between the teams: the Sharks are playing at home, they’re likely a bit fresher coming off the bye and, of course, they have a player named Hynes (Nicho in this case) which has seen them fare well in previous milestone games.
Despite the odds-makers favouring the Roosters, the Sharks’ home-ground advantage, restful weekend off and historically critical Hynes factor will be enough. Sharks by 6.

Butcher knows the rules but he's a dog and does it all the time, that tackle should be taken out of the NRL and also the 3rd man in and around the legs

Parallax replaced Fata Morgana just before kick-off and is playing outside of mirage. :silly:

Mate, the sin bin doesn’t work. Most incidents are accidental! Penalize and move on. If there’s intent then send the player off.

What the $^%@ is Parallax doing out there??

Watch it for yourself and draw your own conclusions. Just be sure to watch a reverse angle and side angle view first. The first angle is deceptive due to parallax error.

Some players only lift when their opposition’s spirit drops. I’m sure Manu is better than that. Suualii isn’t.

Thanks. Something like that wouldn't be given for a team like Titans.. My big bugbear (one of), all the tech and still comes down to opinion and can be manipulated to suit.

I'm not ecstatic that the Dolphins lost either. But I am happy with an emphatic Rabbitohs win.

You know me too well GB - bloody refs bloody useless Roosters. Tipped the Dolphins last night as well. Not happy.

Then how can I read your comments?

Hard to argue with that. The Roosters were very ordinary tonight. Hard to see them as a premiership threat.

You can claim I’m not being objective but I won’t cop out on referees when we lose, certainly no reason to do it when we win…. But people complaining about lopsided penalties is a joke - specially in a game like that where it was obvious…. Referees job isn’t supposed to keep the penalty count even.

But a couple sat down when they were ordered to.

I have backed them not to make the 8 there are 16 teams with IQ's far superior. They are penalty magnets. Manu inconsistent and overrated.
