The Gold Coast Titans host the St George Illawarra Dragons to kick off their 2023 NRL season. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:35pm (AEDT).
The Titans showed glimpses of class during the pre-season challenge and would like to stamp their authority in front of their home fans under Des Hasler. As for the Dragons, off field talks have dominated the off-season whispers, as new coach Shane Flanagan looks to get the Red V back to being a premiership force.
Prediction
Both teams are in a rebuilding phase and a loss in round one is not the end of the world. However, the Dragons have not done well away from the Illawarra and one expects that trend to continue. Titans 8+.

Congrats David , there is something special about winning the first game of the season and something devastating about losing it. Makes no sense but that's the way we are wired.

You pulled that one out of your wig, Jarl Varg. :silly: You never said anything about the team of the week. You seemed to be making a point for ranking the current NRL wingers, not the 'Team of the Week'. I'll leave you with this Norsemen Quote: “All we can do is follow the sun – since the sun always points south, we just have to trust it.” Just as I have to trust, you actually were talking about the 'Team of the Week' without actually saying it. :silly:

Good effort from the Dragons and raspberries to the wooden spoon critics. We will be competitive this year.

It’s possibly a little early to get ahead of ourselves, but it’s been a while so I’ll be enjoying the week… that win puts St G top of the table, competition leaders. And playing some enterprising footy… and looking like they are enjoying playing footy. Well played.

He played well, a good buy for Saints.

Commitment was something they were never going to achieve under a bell end like Griffin.

Tom Eisenhuth showing he should have been the starting 2nd rower at the Storm last year. Flanagan is a great coach and the Dragons look very good.

He wouldn't be the first winger chosen in your team of the week ? He's the winger of the round by quite a space, and that's all I'm talking about.

Great atmosphere at cbus. Saints defence has definitely got some steel into it. Great win.

Couldn’t agree more David, amazing what a bit of mongrel and commitment does

What a difference a decent coach makes. Saints looked committed, wanting to play for each other right to the end. I'm happy to see Lomax stay on the wing as he excelled in the 2nd half. If not for Brimson, Saints would have scored another two tries. Great start to the season and to think we are ahead of Penrith on the table.

Number 1 winger? Pffft! Have you started on the Bundy rum early Jarl Varg? I can think of at least half a dozen wingers ahead of Lomax... (in no particular order) AJ, Young, Tupou, To'o, Turuva, Addo-Carr, Warbrick...

FULL TIME GLD 4 SGI 28 Outstanding. Absolutely outstanding from the Dragons in the second half. In what was an almost flawless half, the visitors punished the Titans with four tries in a row en route to a 24 point victory. The spine were all on song for the Dragons. The same cannot be said for the Titans who have a bye next week.

80' Kick from Hunt finds no one in the end as it goes into touch and that should be full time. It is. Dragons win!

79' Early kick from the Dragons. Brimson wins the chase but he's tackled in goal. Line drop out won by the Dragons GLD 4 SGI 28

Solid defensive performance from Saints. I’m happy enough just to be saying that.

Lomax would still be better at FB with Sloan on the wing IMO.
