The Manly Sea Eagles will have to find a way to win without Tom Trbojevic and Daly Cherry-Evans when they take on the Canberra Raiders at Brookvale Oval. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:50pm (AEST) as the second of the year’s bye rounds commences.

The Sea Eagles’ season turned around in a big way when Tommy Turbo returned from injury in Round 6. Since then, Des Hasler’s men have won eight of ten matches to surge to fifth on the table, with finals now looking all but a formality.

However, not only will both the newly crowned best player in the NRL be sidelined for their clash with the Raiders on Origin duty; but so will captain Daly Cherry-Evans, who misses a club game for the first time since 2019. The Sea Eagles did thrash the Cowboys 50-18 without Trbojevic back in Round 14, though, with Reuben Garrick a star filling in at fullback.

Sitting 13th with a 5-10 record, it’s been a stunning fall from grace for the Raiders after their recent run of success. Troubles on-field and off have plagued Ricky Stuart as his future grows clouded, and while they remain just a game and points differential out of the eight, they’re fast approaching the last chance saloon.

Jack Wighton and Josh Papalii are big outs on Origin duty, while fullback Bailey Simonsson will also miss with a toe injury. That opens the door for Xavier Savage to step in as fullback, while Matt Frawley and Emre Guler also get their chance at five-eighth and prop respectively.

Ivan & co., don’t get the selections right if you ask me. The selectors for NSW Cup don’t even get it right. When Hands plays in the halves or at hooker in NSW Cup, the Penrith team looks 100% better . Salmon’s not much good & makes them look worse. Falls & Salmon doesn’t work that well. So without both of Cleary & Luai. They should go Burton at half & Hands at 5/8th. The beauty of that is that Korisau & Hands can swap around at hooker & 5/8th. May should stay on the bench . Tago at centre , or another youngster like Jenkins. Jenkins is very tall ( could catch the high kicks in attack ) & their both fast. Either that or Naden at centre & Jenkins on the wing. They won’t select Hands, Jenkins & probably not Tago either. Just saying!

I think Frawley definitely butchered one that way, he never passed it wide when he was about 5m out and there was a 3 men overlap. I tipped them because I knew Manly are nothing without Turbo and DCE just like the Panthers without Cleary and Luai. Your boys looked good right from the start, they started slow but kept with Manly especially in the tough middle and you could see that they were getting on top from especially the 15min mark even though they allowed that poor Walker try in.

I think that was Sam Williams who refused to pass a couple of times steve. He had two really good opportunities which he didn't see. He did the same thing against the Dragons two weeks ago when he butchered an overlap by passing short to a forward. We could have won that game. Sam has some good qualities but if he can't see what is happening out wide when an overlap is created he shouldn't be playing. Having said that I thought both halves were very good last night. The best halves performance of the year by the Raiders. As soon as I stop tipping the Raiders they win. You were brave after how poor they were against the Titans. I'd given up on them.

Geoff if Frauly would have passed the ball a few times and got it out wide the Raiders would have scored a couple of more tries. I agree that both Frauly and Williams had a good game but they will have to improve if possetion was reversed. Good win by the Raiders I tipped them

Hi Taree - have to admit I didn't see that coming. I really liked seeing Frawley and Williams as the halves - it just showed what a smart couple of halves can achieve with this team. Their kicking games were excellent - Frawley in particular. Didn't know he could kick those huge spiral bombs and his short kicking game was great. They did to Manly what DCE normally does to us. It was a brilliant strategy and if Ricky dreamt that up hats off to him. Frawley will be very unlucky to be left out next game. I'd be happy to have Frawley and Williams remain in the halves and move Jack to lock but it won't happen. Tapine and Young were really strong - as were the back 5 coming out of defence. Even Jarod got over 100 metres with some strong carries. All in all a great team effort. We need to repeat this attitude week in week out for the next two months.

I'm not sure I would have gone with Jack at 5/8 - he is much better value as a utility coming on in the last 20 minutes when there are tiring forwards. I would have gone for Cody Walker and Adam Reynolds in the halves. But maybe he will have a blinder. I guess he just needs to pick the best time to pass or run.

Dylan Walker at half v Tyrone May. What a salivating albeit low-scoring prospect that would be.

Turbo the only MVP. DCE, Foran and Dessie were heading for the spoon till Tommy showed up in round 6. Hope he comes back unscathed from Origin 3, otherwise what happened last night will be normal transmission.

I should have proof read, I meant that the Raiders depth in their squad is better than any other NRL team, it's disappointing that they have played so badly with such depth.

Geoff, the only disappointing fact with the Raiders is the depth of their squad. Frawley is a good NRL standard half, he proved it again. Why didn't the Raiders make a play for Adam REYNOLDS. We'd have that kicking game every week. That is what the Raiders haven't had since Ricky played, we don't play a good kicking game where pressure continually builds. By half time Manly were totally exhausted, there was no chance of a second half revival by them due to fatigue. Jarrod Crocker & Hudson Young played games that I didn't believe they were capable of, I don't mind being wrong, but lets see it again. The best news of the day was Matthew TIMOKO re-signing until 2024. Onward & upwards, lets hope.

If you just take out Turbo & DCE from the Manly line up. They look particularly ordinary again. Just like any other team , when missing a couple of their top players. Except for Melbourne.

Frawley played very smart tonight - must have got 6 or 7 restarts off his own boot. Manly were absolutely exhausted after having to defend something like 9 sets in a row. It wouldn't have even entered Jack's thinking to play like that.

If Jack had played, all those repeat sets from Frawley kicks would have been Manly 7 tackle restarts.

Hopefully just one bad game for Manly, but can't afford another one. Mummy and Daddy away at Origin camp, Uncle Jake off sick and the kiddies got into the liquor cabinet and made a mess on the carpet. Too many clown show plays when they (rarely) had the ball. Looking at you Dylan Walker, Jason Saab and then there were all the ball droppers. Kieran played his heart out as always. Raiders played mostly tidy football and had a relentlessly accurate kicking game on Manly's line. Well done. Hopefully Tom and Cherry survive Origin 3 and normal transmission resumes.

You're right DP. Having 8 in the playoffs is merely a low class reward for mediocrity, but it gives the telecasters more end of season games. I would much prefer a top five.
