Round 15 continues tonight when the Melbourne Storm host the Wests Tigers at Sunshine Coast Stadium looking to retake top spot on the ladder. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:35pm (AEST).

Whilst the Panthers suffered from the Origin series in recent weeks, the Storm just seem to keep motoring along. Whether it’s depth, systems or a combination of both, Penrith’s hold on the minor premiership is suddenly shaky, and Craig Bellamy’s goal of back to back premierships is very real.

Last weekend, they were simply a class above the Warriors at Gosford. Brandon Smith and Jahrome Hughes are likely to be a constant for the Storm during the Origin series, whilst Nicho Hynes continues to shine as Ryan Papenhuyzen’s replacement.

Christian Welch is expected to return after a head knock suffered in Origin 1, with Nelson Asofa-Solomona replacing the injured Jesse Bromwich. Tui Kamikamica is named to start from the bench, while George Jennings returns to the wing after a short term injury.

At half time last weekend, the Tigers were a chance. Down 14-6 against the Eels, the game remained in the balance after Parramatta had dominated possession in the first half. As it played out, possession didn’t swing and the Tigers suffered a heavy defeat.

However, the Tigers have been more competitive in recent weeks, including a win over a weakened Panthers outfit the weekend before State of Origin 1.

Moses Mbye has been named to return at five eighth, whilst Ken Maumalo will make his debut for the club after playing for the Warriors against the Storm last weekend. James Roberts moves into the centres, with Adam Doueihi not recovering sufficiently from a head knock.

Prediction:

The Melbourne Storm are unbeaten on the Sunshine Coast and I expect that record to stay intact tonight.

They are almost full strength this week and should have too much firepower for a Tigers side that are struggling to keep in contact with the top 8.

So St.George bought up all the biggest players they could buy from all areas. It was semi professional then as they all had jobs of some sort. Frank Facer never told what anyone else was paid and when players asked for a raise they were told “There is no money in the biscuit tin”. Frank watched the 1977 grand final on TV while he had terminal cansir that ended his life in January 1978.

That rule had gone by 1963 and was often ignored. In 1944 Saints had a player who caught the train from Wollongong to Carlton for training and games on the weekend. Wests of 1963 were called the "Millionaires" and beat Saints three times before the Grand Final where the waterlogged SCG killed their advantage. The juniors that supplied the lower grades lived in the area. That rule was unfair to Easts who had a small district while Souths had eastern suburbs like Maroubra. Easts juniors had about four clubs while Souths juniors boasted that the South Sydney juniors club was the biggest in NSW. Country players came to Sydney to live, for example Clive Churchill came from the Newcastle.

Let’s hope that they get a lot more serious injuries amongst the whole squad. That may bring them closer to other teams level?

There's that too, for sure. If a player is worth 500, he'll play at Melbourne for 400 and bulldogs need to pay 600-650. It makes it hard to put a competitive roster together. I just think more clubs should be looking at reserve grade and seeing the potential of players, you look at Rudolph, walker, fogarty (not a great example this year) and hynes good talent for next to nothing on the cap for 2 years is way better than spending half a mill on 18 yr old potential (I'm looking at you broncos)

The players were supposed to live in the area that they played for in those days. So according to the records , the St.George coach had about 13 players living at his house. It was also the unlimited tackle rule. You didn’t hand over the ball until you lost it, it went out of play. Or you just scored. So St.George bought up all the biggest players they could buy from all areas. That 11 in a row, could never be repeated. As it’s not the same game. Simple as that.

The Dragons v Raiders was exciting but they aren't in the same league as Melbourne. The restart rule gives them more tackles in which to exploit their advantage. As we saw tonight they got an extra n tackles each time they scored. 66-14, what a joke.

Good point. The Storm have always been strong and it makes them attractive to players who want to be a part of it. The restart rule gives them more tackles in which to exploit their advantage. As we saw tonight they got an extra n tackles each time they scored. The restart rule is nearly as bad as golden point. I'd get rid of them both.

When St.George won 11 grand finals in a row they added one or two players each year. There were many who wanted to join so they could choose the best of many. Like Brain Clay, John Rayper, Kevin Ryan and Graeme Langlands.

I really blame clubs poor coaching rather than the top teams having most talent. In storms case, no club wanted Hughes, hynes, olam, eisenhuth or Lewis, but they're looking like real first graders and superstars. More clubs should be getting more out of their players than they are

Pay two or three players with good skills and great attitudes more than they’re worth, and make up the rest of your squad from journeymen and young talent. That young talent can be led by good role models and if coached well will develop well. Finucane could be one of those.

They continue to snap up every lazy and flaky player that comes onto the market. Seriously, what result is Madge expecting when recruiting blokes like James Roberts, Joe Ofahengaue and Joey Leilua. They’d be specials to pass on Dale Finucane so they can sign Tevita Pangai Jnr.
